You are a Space Army Project
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:02:53 am »

This is simple. Earth goverment wants an army to protect its expansion in the stars. And you are one of the projects created for that. You'll have to decide the way your project is and assume the role of its leader. Maybe the first soldier of the project or the scientist that had the idea. The setting is not a too far future. You have 30 points to spend. You can have negative points at some field, and use them in other fields, but you can only have a minimum of -5 (eg: You could decide that your soldiers are mindless bersekers and give them discipline -5 so you can spend those five points on genetic engineering.). 4 players maximum, each one with one project:

Space Travel: This measures the number of space ships you have, their speed and their combat strenght. You have to divide the points spent at this field in those categories. 0 points means that you have only some light transport or scout vessel.
Weapons: Self-explanatory. 0 points means that you have standard modern fire arms, while higher levels mean you have things like laser guns, bolter guns, gauss weapons and so on.
Armour: Self-explanatory. 0 points means that your troops have modern body armour that can protect against modern firearms, while higher levels will bring things like power armour.
Genetic Engineering: Maybe your troops aren't human, or maybe they are enhanced humans. As this is one of the most varied categories, just say what kind of changes you want your troops to have, and i'll tell you how many of those changes you can have for the amount of points you spent. 0 points are normal humans.
Numbers: The amount of troops you have. 0 means you only have a platoon of no more than 150 men and the support staff (like space ship crews)
Discipline: Will your soldiers do exactly as you wish or will they rebel, thinking they won't be seeing their planet anymore? 0 is standard army discipline.
Support: This measures your relationships with other factions. A level of 0 means that you have only the standard relationships, like trading spare parts for repair with the Navy. Some factions include: The Navy, The Nobel Committee (a group of the most intelligent minds of Earth), The Mars Mines Company and the regular army.
Vehicles: The amount of vehicles you have for planet transport. Anything from tanks to jeeps to air crafts. 0 points means that you only have light civilian grade vehicles.
Pshychic: Is there anyone in your project with psychic powers? A level of 0 means there is the occasional one with minor powers like telephatic communication at small distances. But you may not know this.

Scientist and other support staff are included in the above fields eg: a project with a high space travel level would mean you have engineers that repair the space ships and maintain them in battle condition.

Project Ambrosius

Stats (Finalized)
Space Travel 6
Project Ambrosius has access to the Minwu, a light FTL transport which can hold 200 people and gear, or 100 and all vehicles. The Minwu also has some turrets for point defense, two fighters, and a stealthy shuttle seating 50 (or 100 if you really cram and cut down on cargo).
Weapons 1
All agents of Project Ambrosius have a main battle rifle, a silenced sidearm, and a light sword or similar weapon for ceremonial purposes and those rare times when swords are useful.
Armor 3
Project Ambrosius has 50 suits of good body armor, and one of higher-quality armor (for the CO)
Genetic Engineering 0
Project Ambrosius's members are 100% human.
Numbers -2
There are about 50 agents and around a dozen of various sorts of support people.
Discipline 2
Project Ambrosius has above-average discipline.
Support 5 (3 navy, 2 public)
Rear Orbital Admiral Rand still supports Project Ambrosius. His advertisements back when it was starting gave it widespread public approval; politicians seeking to cut its funding would face losing a notable percentage of their votes, so that's improbable for the foreseeable future.
Vehicles 3
Project Ambrosius has a large APC called the Riddle. It has space for the whole group and a driver but not much else. They also have a helicopter, holding 15. They also have access to more inconspicuous vehicles on a need basis.
Psychic 12
Every member of Project Ambrosius is psychic, even the support people. The agents are overall balanced, and each has a good handle on all kinds of psionics, but each has their own specialties.

Project Ambrosius was the brainchild of one Rear Orbital Admiral Rand, who realised that the growing number of psions in the world would be both a danger and an opportunity. Thus, he used his contacts to assemble a team of several dozen good psions and the gear they would need to thrive. They are a special forces unit, technically, but Rand sees them as more of a proof-of-concept.
Rand still oversees the project, but has given real command to Lieutenant Gregory Georgeson, one of the more powerful telepaths. He, in turn, has divided the rest of the psions into five "toons," A through E, each with a Sergeant Major and a Sergeant and ten or so others. They have camaraderie and are all well-versed in military theory.

Project Genesis.

Space travel 0
Weapons 13
Armor 13
Genetic engineering 6
Numbers 5
Discipline 1
Support 2
Vehicles -5
Psychic -5

The brain child of an old soldier who decided it was time to give evolution a kick in the pants.

Support 2 points with a genetic engineering company and 2 points with the nobles.
Genetic engineering will be used to make my soldiers stronger, faster and increase endurance on 2/3 of soldiers while the remaining 1/3 will become faster, better at stealth and have increased hearing and sight.
Weapon focus is split between advanced assault rifles and advanced sniper rifles.
Armor is focused on a split between heavy power armor and stealth armor.
Navy is entirely military based.
The companies main goal is to make the perfect human soldier through the best equipment and genetic enhancement.

Notable personnel include senior sergeant Gibbs who is the companies most skilled sniper, colonel Janos who commands all men in the field with 30 years of experience and staff sergeant Smith who is the companies best rifleman. Also scientist DR Harold Parker who heads the genetic engineering department, captain Callum who was the first man to be genetically modified and is the newest officer to the unit.

Numbers -1 is around 80-100 men, and psychic 10 means all of them have some psychic powers. Maybe most of them can only use their powers to support another soldier or have only minor powers, but some are powerful users. Also with Psychic 10 you can choose two disciplines (like telephaty or pyrokinesis) in which your project has special emphasis or you can choose to have all psychic disciplines developed at the same rate.

EDIT: You are supposed to be allies, but keep in mind that the most succesful project could be the one receiving all the funds, so maybe there will be times when you will fight each other.

Project NOWWITHMOUNTAINS

Space Travel 2
Weapons 15
Armor 14
Genetic Engineering 0
Numbers -2
Discipline 0
Support 6
Vehicles 0
Psychic -5

Project NOWWITHMOUNTAINS is the brainchild of a rather silly group of gentlemen who instead of the usual stealthy manner of doing business desired a group that will rush in, blast everything their enemy stands for, and get out. The name is commonly abbreviated to Project NWM, and the "NOWWITHMOUNTAINS" part comes from the armor used by its soldiers, which was developed before the primary research focus switched to weaponry.

Alright, more info:

Support from The Nobel Committee.
Weapons focus: one-man heavy weapon platforms.
Armor focus: personal forcefields.

The notable personnel list includes Irene Aster, head of the R&D departament, Xun Erwin Rhydderch, leader of military forces and demolitions specialist and Silvio Coughlan, primary project administrator. There's many more, yet they shan't be named until needed.

The -5 in psychics comes from the fact that all soldiers have been screened for possible deviations in a MRI.

Project New Humanity

Generic info: Project new humanity are descendant of a semi-religious open group that decided that future of humanity is to live in the space. They never visited any planet and spent their entire lives on spaceships

Space Travel 20
They have a vast fleet of ships of various sizes and roles. From asteroid miners to hospitals, from hydroponic farms to military ships
Weapons 1
As a rather peaceful community they never developed advanced weaponry
Armor 1
See above
Genetic Engineering 7
They used genetic engineering to become better suited for living in space: They are fully adapted to zero-G gravity, consume oxygen more effectively,  more resistant to radiation and so on. On other hand they'll have a hard time at any planet. They don't stop that process and continue to upgrade every new generation
Numbers 3
They are quite numerous
Discipline 6
Living in somewhat extreme conditions they learned to maintain discipline
Support -1
They are rather disliked by the Navy, because they are dangerous for their dominance
Vehicles -5
They don't visit planets
Psychic -2
They just got unlucky, their ancestors had no Psychic

Not a bad combination.
Good psychics 2 sets of pretty well equipped soldiers and a massive navy.

Ok. Those of you who have support, choose a faction (or two and divide the support points). Then some background information and the focus that you want in each field (someone with genetic engineering 5 could have soldiers with enhanced abilities like superhuman strenght and endurance or have an army composed of beasts created by mixing features from the greatest predators)

An insight in the project organization, goals and important staff (so we can add more to storytelling) is encouraged.

80-100 is a bit more than I'd imagined.
How about-2? Is that closer to 60-70?

Okay, then, close enough. Would Psy 13 be enough for everyone to be a pretty good psion?

Hey, GM.

I think you'd be better off if you defined the scale you're using in hard terms, since you know, you're going to have to do it sooner or later anyway and it'd be nice to know before our selections are set in stone :3

I for one would be interested in how far would my weapons/armor focus go with the points assigned.
