Seeing as dimple cups are currently used to make dye...that sounds foul.

I'm thinking of it as something like a vodka and kool-aid. Annoyingly sweet, and if you spew your clothing will never forget it.

Why would dimple brew be sweet? Are real-world dyes sweet?

I like how you think that racism "makes a lot more sense considering darwinism", but apparently sexual selection doesn't mean anything, and sexual/romantic behavior is unimportant to you despite it being a fairly central part of most cultures.

Because it generates conflict, which makes the game more interesting.

...And homosexuality has never caused conflict? It's causing conflict right now!

I think unhappy dwarves being able to tell the difference between sad and angry and reacting accordingly is a somewhat more pressing concern.

And romance, seeing as homosexuality without love is...kinda pointless. It's like magma without heat, or candles without darkness.

There's bigger fish to fry, some of which make homosexuals practically different from infertile dwarves.

Frankly, while I'm all for "conflict", Toady knows there has to be a balanace beteen realism, and playability. Right now, focusing on super complex relationships isn't important. Not to say it will never BE important, it just you don't interact with other people very much right now. We're moving in the direction though. Now creatures have thougght processes which state things like cowardice>death or vice versa. The thing is, it will come in alot later as part of more complex things, so don't push it now, when he's focusing on fleshing out the actual, more immediate concerns. I mean hell, no one lives anywhere but humans!

Look, keep aware. The main point is that it isn't to a point of depth that the stilited conversation is more obviously problematic. Like when I can ask a villiage girl for her hand in marriage and her sole determiner is RNG or how famous I am or something.

Well, yeah, that's what I've been thinking of as well.

I mean, you could say 'all dwarves are bisexual, interaction with other dwarves determine to which side they lean' or 'some dwarves are not heterosexual, but the civ entities' feelings regarding non-heterosexuality determines whether they act upon it' or 'non heterosexual dwarves are as common as shiny pokemon'.

Ideally you'd create some type of system where it's completely unpredictable how much variation there is.

What are the percents going to be?

Supposedly it's around 10% for humans in reality, so that's a decent starting point.  Maybe it could be an init option if people really wanted to argue over the ratio.

In any case, I agree with the general consensus that better expansion of dwarven personalities, mindsets and romance should probably be explored before Toady implements this.

I'd actually like for most of my dwarves to be gay or lesbian, so they'd stop breeding so fast!
