Sweet. I feared a ragequit, and you're just addicted. Good, good. All according to plan.

Like I'd ragequit without whining to you guys first. :P

I'll get the rest of the videos up tomorrow/Friday so that I can get on with the actual game.

Double Posting because I can.

I've uploaded the rest of the videos now, so you guys can start suggesting stuff to do per usual.

Short term plans include: Going to the Vega star system. Mining some minerals to pay for everything. Refueling at Octantis. And... I guess I'll check out the Spathi homeworld while I'm in the area. I don't know what else to do, really.

EDIT: Guess who forgot to save?

EDIT2: Guess who occasionally gets 550 free RUs?

This is my steam name, so if you want to super-battle, hit me up some time.

If you got fifteen minutes to kill I can do some Super Battling, but otherwise I need some sleep.

Also, The Thaddash theme has been playing through my head for some reason. The Yehat theme is fighting for some space too.

Wait until you chat with the Arilou. That theme rings in my head from time to time. That, and the VUX theme.

Where are the Arilou? You'd think that they would have shown their inter-dimensional faces by now if they heard that a human was flying around outside the slave shield. Maybe they'll suddenly pop up once we recruit the Syreen or something. Or maybe they're just hiding like cowards. I doubt that the Ur-Quan would have enslaved them after the end of Star Control II. Perhaps the Orz know some more about them? I need to stop rambling like this in my posts. That's what the videos are for.

That's another one of the "take good notes on everything" events, like much of the game. I'm still far behind on the vids, so I don't even know if you've gotten the clue or not. Nor can I remember who gives it.

... I'm pretty useless.  :-\

Yeah, this game requires tons of note-taking.

I took a completely different path, and just now am making friends with the ORZ about halfway through the game; as well as got a really, really good understanding of the Ur-Quan and Kohr-Ah's motives for what they're doing. Oh yeah, and I also got Yehat ships and Pkunk ships flying side-by-side in my fleet.

All this, and I have yet to peer through the Ultronomicon (UQM wiki). Of course, playing in Nostalgia Amnesia (AKA "Blind Idiot") Mode, doing a memory-wipe, or at least, playing with OCD-level note-taking, including most talks (at least, summarized, except where important details are concerned. Notepad++ really helps with the (custom) formatting to highlight things).

How I started, I met the Pkunk first, and then dealt with the Spathi (since Fwiffo kindly gave us a way in).

For its day, the game was pretty sandboxy, in that you can do almost whatever, whenever, as long as you wind up with the proper plot coupons for the endgame. Or, if you're a real asshole, you don't even have to do most of the quests.

I did, in a fit of blind and stupid luck, find the Really Convenient Thing on my way to solve the probe mystery in my first playthrough. I always headed north first, out of sheer irritation, then got the spathi and yehat situation out of the way early.

Also, the first time I played Mass Effect I really liked the Mako APC parts because they reminded me of lander missions in StarCon 2.

I have Mass Effect, but I have yet to install/play it. That Mako APC part intrigues me. How similar to the lander missions is it that reminded you? I remember hearing that there were some parallels between Starcon 2 and Mass Effect.

EDIT:
Having done a Youtube search for a few, I can sort of see some similarities. Kinda gets me thinking; I wonder if anyone has ever thought of making a 3D/modernizing of Starcon2? With permission from Toys For Bob, of course. After all, they allowed the DOS and 3DO resources for the Ur-Quan Masters to be made. I wonder how they would feel about a third party working on rebuilding Starcon2, except taking advantage of today's graphical power. Keep the charm; upgrade the graphics.

I can imagine interacting with the many races would be rather interesting; especially since you'll get a much neater view of what goes on inside the ships they have. And with the gift of procedural generation, every captain aboard the ships you run into would look slightly different from each other; the Slylandro probes, obviously, always looking the same. More disturbing to watch would be the Ur-Quan, and the Kohr-Ah (with their talking pets settled nearby them), especially with their bone pits (also procedurally generated in densities/arrangements amongst).

What could also be interesting would be a translation of the starmap in 3 dimensions, instead of 2, and how Hyperspace and Quasispace could be rendered. Most interesting would be the HD-rebuilds of the classic ships (Having Blender on my machine, that gives me a good deal of side-projects I can work on. I have plenty of fan-works and the classic images to base off of).

Rendering the communication screens in 3D would also be an interesting project to take on; provided I had the skills to do so. Would not be looking forward to rendering the Ilwrath communications, however. Not a fan of spiders; not to mention, if I had texturing abilities, their ships' comms and controls would look like bloody sacrificial altars, with a cross of Mayan and Greco-Roman themes. Obviously, I know countless volunteers would want to work on the Syreen, especially Talana. A fun start would be Fwiffo, and the Spathi ships and their interiors.

Starcon 3 could also be a source of rendering reference/ideas, but the original SC3 renderings could use a little more work. Especially the Syreen.

Eh, there wasn't a real 1-to-1 correlation in Mass Effect. I just got the impression when I first started playing it that "this lander mission must have been like those guys in SC2." I love Mass Effect (usual ending rant here, though it was later fixed to my general satisfaction), but I think the people saying there's more than a few similar tropes between the two are just desperate to read too much into things.

Fred and Paul still work for Toys for Bob, but TfB are (IIRC) owned by Activision. The blog on their site makes mention of StarCon occasionally, but... it sounds to me like they're just VERY politely saying Activision denied them all requests for more StarCon stuff and refuses to sell a license to anyone else. Corporate life is like that. However... I'm going to send you a PM.

Oddly enough, the SC3 races weren't renders. Those are animatronic puppets commissioned just for the game, for whatever reason. I actually liked the Spathi and VUX and Utwig, but you are correct. Syreen was a failure of colossal proportions.

I wish that I could words effective enough to express my thoughts on the above subjects, but I cannot. Instead I'll just bring you these videos.

I'm not going to lie. I have no clue what to do next. I was thinking about visiting the Spathi next, but that's mostly because I've run out of ideas of where to go next. So... advise? Spathi? Take a shot at the Yehat? Ask Greenish for some help? I could go investigate the Mycon world that the Yehat were talking about, but... we're not ready yet. Or at least that's what I think. Still, no pressure or anything. Exams are more important than saving the universe. Unless I goof off/need to relax a bit the next few videos will come up after the 14th.

If I'm not mistaken, the recent Rainbow World you visited wasn't what the Slylandro were talking about. Look to the left edge of the starmap, and you'll see a twin set of blue stars. Another one is among them. And A big white star was also mentioned by them as the location of another. So you got one (Thraddash mentioned it), and know the locations of two others (+500 Cr. now, and +1000 Cr. later. That's a metric buttload of fuel, and the rest of the tech tree, and some recent news/background history.).

Story-wise, I'm surprised you didn't call Fwiffo's bluff with the cypher as immediately as you heard it. Worth trying out. What's the worst that could happen?

EDIT:
Interesting enough, in my playthrough, with a bit of lateral thinking, and all the clues I could gather on the rainbow worlds in-game, I found all 10 of them legitimately. Interesting how they hid them, and how they set the clues up to find them all.

EDIT EDIT:
Good news, Everyone!

It seems the creators of the Starcon 2 HD Mod are only days away from publishing it. Sweet!

According to sources, it'll likely/intentionally be a New Year's Release (1992 being the original release, 2002 being UQM release, and 2012 being the HD re-release), at least, as an Alpha. Checking out some of the screencaps, it's looking really sweet.

Exams are finally over for me, and that means another video! Hopefully I'll be able to recapture all five of my viewers after the week's hiatus :P

The video is mostly me talking over Master Greenish, because we've bought a lot of information from him with all of the loot from finding the treasure worlds. So now we have a bunch of things to investigate. Obviously I'm going to have to head back to Earth to resupply and then start work on saving the Shofixti, but Alpha Pavonis is pretty close. Chandrasekhar and Columbae aren't that far away too, and it's getting close to the 17th of the month. Honestly I wish I had more crewmembers, so that I could visit General ZEX by swinging through Spathi space, but getting back to full crew is much more important right now. Eh.

Thoughts, ideas? I'm just formulating a plan right now, so chime in with your opinion if you have one.
