animals that aren't normaly killers
« on: November 16, 2012, 12:05:33 pm »

Awhile back some raccoons had made there way to my map and started to kill the local animals so much one ended up becoming a named raccoon. I wish I had taken a picture of it because he ended up killing some of my dwarven children. Needless to say the wiki say racoons where harmless and don't attack dwarves -_-. Now I shale kill ever last Raccoon that walks on to the map or even looks at one of my dwarfs.

What animals have killed your dwarfs that normally are nice animals?

Badger don't care.
Don't you know this?

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I'm not your average Bay12er. I care about my drunken midgets.

Peaceful? Only peaceful animals are dead, or tame, because they're all bloody annoying and kills my interrupt! And that's assuming they're not chasing my dwarves half the time, even just out of random path-finding.

Well, tame animals can be killers if you cram them in too much, and there're zombies and skeletons...

Badgers.
How is a badger dangerous?
Have you ever seen a badger in real life? They are creatures about the size and weight of a 3 year-old kid, have a bite that once it locks on is almost impossible to remove without totally shattering their jaw, have claws 1-2 inches in length, and are known to be fierce enough fighters to drive off packs of wolves and bears. They can also run as fast as 16-19 mph for short distances. I wouldn't want to fight a badger as an adult, and wouldn't be surprised at all if it could kill a child.

Add into that the fact that in DF badgers go into a blood rage the instant they see your dwarves and never back down and badgers are one of the top predators for dwarven lives. :P

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Hippoes are very dangerous if you provoke them, they are completely harmless if you let them be. Really anything with hooves can easily destroy you in adventure mode though, just needs a bit of luck if you are highly skilled and a bit of less luck if you arent wearing a helmet.

Yeah, badgers are not only fairly well armed for their size, but they're crazy.  Sure, maybe a bear will kill a badger, but if he gets his nose bitten off, he probably won't mess with any more badgers.

I've found capybaras are much more dangerous than expected, I've had quite a few hunters injured and babys carried by hunters killed by them. They are not aggressive, but way more dangerous than say wild boars who can get more nasty in real life.

Hippos, and any bunches of tamed animals that are around when you attack a tame stray animal in Adventure Mode. Badgers are rough too.

Pretty much what everyone's already said :P

That's actually pretty accurate. Hippies kill more people than any other African mammal.
...Autocorrect changed hippoes to hippies. Screw it, it stays.

I am surprised by the deadliness of pandas.

Compounded with the fact that badgers are bloodthirsty psychos, they're usually attacking dwarves. Essentially, imagine taking on a badger just almost as big as you.

Just the classic: barely alive (ran in the goblin grinder, more body parts red or grey than not) badger ripping out an axedwarf's throat. They are hardcore.
