smartphone gaming
« on: November 16, 2012, 09:27:59 am »

I want to get the most out of this ridiculously expensive little piece of machinery, and by that I mean I want fun games :P

So, given that I am a diehard DF fan, what kind D's of games might there be that my fellow bay12ers would suggest for a smartphone. I have to believe there are some truly engage smartphone style games.

I found that they ported Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for Android too. It has a far better UI than Nethack.

Also gran prix story; the other are nice but they become a bit stale

I play tiny wing, starbase orion and super mega worm, mostly.

Great replay value.

Other that I enjpyed once are carmageddon, draw race, and countless other but these are the one I really enjoyed.

Junk jack is nice if you are into terraria and if you have transparent fingers

I liked abuction, wich is basically a doodle jump clone. Nothing too special, but a good timekiller.

What type of smartphone? Android? Windows? iOS? Blackberry?

GameDevStory.

This. Game Dev Story is one of the best management type games on the phone, though the combos get annoying after a while.

Angry Birds Star Wars is actually surprisingly good, if you like lasers and blowing spaceships up. Been playing Bad Piggies for a while now; it's a lot of fun if you like machines and stuff.

League of Evil is good if you like platformers.

Trainyard's an ok puzzle game.

SQUIDS is kind of like a RPG, but a bit too complex for what I expect from a phone game.

Final Fantasy III is a full blown RPG, very good if you like those classical FF games :P

Seconded bad piggies.

It's always so much fun to make flying ships with only parts that weren't made to fly.
It's not very controllable tough.

You should pick up the Humble Bundle for Android that's going on right now. Lots of good games!

Android/Smartphone rant:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Anyway, here's a list of games I found pretty fun so far.

Minifarm (Harvest Moon in a more... open environment?)
Plants War (small scale MOBA)
Call of Mini - Zombies (co-op shooting, becomes pretty blah after awhile, especially when you realize the games actually 2D, lol)
Velocispider (tilt based arcade shooting game, pretty short unless you purchase)
Dungeon Raid (pretty cool, hard to explain how it plays)
Beastie Bay (or any Kairosoft game really)
Spectral Souls (ported from the PSP i believe, and done so very well, however the last time i looked it had a pretty hefty price tag)

Some may have slipped through the cracks here as I've scoured the market many times and tried so many games...

King of Dragon Pass is available, great game on a phone actually.

Starbase Orion was mentioned, I will second it because the devs keep updating it and adding good features.

Actiony games I really enjoyed jetpack joyride for a while.
