A question about military
« on: November 15, 2012, 07:54:26 pm »

Do dwarves automatically equip a better piece of equipment? As in a dwarf is in full iron armor, I make a set of Adamantine armor, would he automatically equip it himself?

Provided it meets the parameters of their uniform, yes they will equip better equipment as it becomes available. Squads/soldiers higher in the list get priority, so if your entire military is set to use metal armor and your militia commander gets a new, shinier breastplate, most of your military will then try to reshuffle their breastplates.

Dwarves equip equipment based on value; since bluemetal is by far the most valuable type of material, they'll equip that.

Not necessarily better in case of bluemetal blunt weapons :D

But yes as above, more valuable as long as it meets the uniform parameter, in order according to what I quoted.

Mostly to make me feel better, I address this by creating two new uniforms if/when my steel production ramps up - Steel Melee and Steel Archer, where I specify all the pieces in steel, including a steel melee or ranged weapon.
