Artifact Door usage
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:40:24 am »

I have an artifact Door. If I use it on my main entrance then no enemies should be able to get inside. Ever. Right? Thieves could get in, I think. Also, can thieves just steal the door? That would be kinda awesome. Thief gets to the front door, "Close enough", takes the door and walks away :D

Building destroyers will rip the door aside, then a thief might nab it :D

IIRC, artifacts can't be destroyed, just displaced, unless atomsmashed or dropped into magma flow. I've had artifact making disabled for a few version so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

Can the destroyers tear down walls too? Is nowhere safe?

Walls are safe, floor are safe, fortification are safe ( well, against them getting THROUGH it, no promises about safety with somethng that shoots )

Bridges are safe for most part too, outside of heat damage.

As far as I know (and as far as I've experienced) artefact things like doors, heatches and floodgates cannot be knocked down by building destroyers. Thieves should still be able to pick the lock, though.
Conventional doors can all be knocked down by level 2 building destroyers, and wooden ones by level 1 destroyers.

Forget to clarify, fortification will let creature through it if it's flooded to 7/7 of magma or water, or pressure pushes it through, however it don't get destroyed ( unless it's not magma-safe for magma? ).

Since you have an artifact door, a better use of it would be to put it in a dining room or noble's rooms to increase the value of the rooms in question.

Doors don't increase room value.  Resize the room and look at the shape you get.

It does, if you put it in -after- making the room. Or set the door to internal, which includes it into the room.

You can use the trick of putting things in -after- designating the room with statues too.

If you build it like so;

Code: [Select]
[DOOR][RAMP]
[WALL][RAMP]

The door is indestructible from below.

Or you can mark it as internal.

Neat. This even works with any ordinary door.

Are you certain? I recall having rooms in magnetite clusters (and thus having magnetite walls + floors) having absurd amounts of room values.  Though, from your point of view, walls shouldnt increase room value either.

Posting this with phone so sorry about spelling mistakes.

Regarding the room value, I have been doing some research of it, a link to the thread is on my signature.
I haven't actually tested out doors yet but walls are counted to room value. There is also a thing I call "gap reduction", a value that is reduced from room value if the room is mot completely surrounded by walls. This value can get quite big, for example Royal quality has the reduction value of ovet 1400. This may cause it look like doors aren't counted.

True. Also, doors operated by mechanisms cannot be opened by thieves.
