Diary 1

Well, we're here.  I'm glad I brought this diary along.  I had heard that keeping one was nice for relaxing, and there's not a whole lot else for relaxing around here.  It looks like I'll be either digging or cutting some wood here soon, though I might simply be working with the wood or stone instead of gathering it.  Either way, it's going to be something new, which is nice, actually.  Time for me to go, Lady Patience is walking this way and looks like she has things that need doing.

Diary 2

We've been busy getting Tacticssmile up and running!  I was in charge of processing the cut wood into something better suited to building, and I think I've done a good job, too!  I think I'd rather carve a chair or table.  Or a bed.  Still, gotta have walls before things like that can really be used, I guess.  Lady Patience even asked me to make some decorative things from the wood, too!  I think the furniture is going to be stone?  I'm off today, so I decided to write a bit before having some fun in the trees.  Climbing, swinging, everything!  Maybe I'll get to see something dangerous, or Kat hunting?

Diary 1

As it turns out, Mal can use that slimy thing on her head to hold a pick. No idea how, but at least she can mine, so I guess there's nothing to complain about. She's a decent carver, too, and she can work wonders with stone. Spinny (is it to early to call her that?) is great, too, bringing in some rather nice-looking wood for later use. Hmm....I wonder if we could build wooden objects with stone carvings in them? Ehh, that might be something to talk with the others about.

Diary, I dont trust this place.

I like the outdoors and all, but this place looks wild. I don't like wild. Wild means animals, like wolves and zebras, could just wander in our little camp without the slightest bit of trouble. My first goal is to get some walls set up, secondary to actual housing. Our leader would probably agree with me, for entirely different reasons, yes, but walls will be built.

Dear Diary.

Autumn is here, and we've got more ponies here. I haven't gone through and gotten their names, but they're all married...And...

Well, diary, they're all old. Except one couple, an Ashler couple, a Tentacle mare and a Keshi stallion. The others, though, they could die any day now! And so they got sent here.

All up, we got a Partisan couple, a pegasus stallion furnace operator, married to an earth mare siege engineer, three Ashler couples, a keshi mare weaver married to a tentacle stallion butcher, a tentacle stallion fisher and a keshi mare farmer, and the one I mentioned before.

Well, hopefully they'll fit in.

We've started digging out the dining hall, so that will be good to hear.

Dear Diary.

Autumn's in full strength now. The wall's looking pretty good now. We're planning on building it over the river, so we have a fresh supply of water available. I've taken a hoof at helping with the carpentry. It'll be good to have more ponies here. We've got so much to do, and so little ponies to do it.

I'm getting tired, diary. We haven't had a proper night of sleep since we've arrived. And now the parasprites are popping up.

Every few hours it's another alarm. "Get together, the Parasprites are swarming."

Our hunters keep taking them down, but there are ever so many of them. At least the wall keeps most of them off.

I think the first caravan should arrive soon. At that point, we'll have to lock up the fortress for the winter. Too many things out here to stay out for long during the winter. Especially without an army.

Kat's Diary, first page.

23rd Galena 309
So they gave me a diary and said I should write things onto it, well Alright!
Everything's going pretty smooth so far, Walls being built, things being made, Everypony's working extra hard to get things done before Winter arrive I guess. I've been doing my own part aswell! There are many critters and wild animals here, many of them are curious to see what's going on. Most of them found themselves dinner, So far I'd say I'm having a grand time. Although I'd like to have a real bedroom sometimes, Sleeping on the grass and dirt are getting tiring. And with all the ponies banging the walls together aren't making me rest any better.. I would've slept on the clouds but those damned birds just wouldn't leave me alone.

We've got some more ponies! I almost shot them at first thinking they're wild animals, luckily I realize that animals don't wear cloths. Most of them have seen way too many winters. I'm beginning to wonder if we're some sort of a grave colony now or something? Nevermind that. At least they're working on digging out the dining hall, I'd love to eat something on a table while sitting on a proper chair again. And I hope they'd start growing Cloud berries again soon! I'd love to eat some meal made from them or Cloud berry mead!

I'm seeing more and more Parasprites nowadays, Little buggers are hard to shoot, but they prove to be a nice challenge.

Diary 3

Not much has changed, except for the group of migrants that showed up today.  I think they must have gotten lost on their way somewhere else.  I mean, a new settlement isn't really a place you'd expect elderly ponies to move to.  Well, they made it here, so they're probably tougher than average.  Hopefully they're up to helping get everything going.

Oh, and Lady Patience has started working at carpentry!  I noticed her taking some logs from the wood stack and to the workshop.  I know I'd love a bed, but it'd be a bit odd to sleep on her worksponyship.  Still, I bet it'd be a good sleep!

Is it too late to move Tacticssmile someplace with less parasprites?

Alright, I'll bite.  I think I'll take the draltha pony couple, for better or worse.  If one or both drop dead next year, too bad. 

What are their professions?  I'm having difficulty coming up with names without that info.

I have not dates to work with!  Oh well, time to fake it like everyone else.  I decided to go with Lodestone for the stallion and Breccia for the mare.

Lodestone's Journal - Entry 1

Breccia and I arrived at Tacticssmile today.  It's not much to look at, which isn't really all that surprising, but I must say I'd hoped the place would be a bit better finished by the time we got here.  Oh well, we're back underground now, which is what matters right now.  I've never really cared to be outside for extended periods, and the journey here definitely qualified as an extended period.  I hope Breccia is happy at least.  Maybe now I'll find out why she seemed so adamant about coming out here.

In any case, the two of us could use a rest after spending so long on the way out here.  Since Tacticssmile is still in such an early phase of construction I'm a bit doubtful that we'll have a proper room to sleep in for some time.  Maybe at least that slippy pony can get some beds tossed together soon.

If she doesn't, we'll manage.  I may be halfway through my third century, but I'm not a decrepit old stallion yet.  Breccia's hip still gives her trouble from time to time though, so I'll let her have the blankets we packed to sleep on.

Maybe tomorrow Miss Patience will have something useful for us to do.  I don't know how much work there is for a tanner out here, but I'm sure I can lend a hoof on something.

2nd Entry

The furnishing process has been slow but steady.  I think we'll have a decent place to eat before much longer.  Of course that's going to be held up a bit since another load of ponies arrived today.

It's strange.  I thought Breccia and I would be the only ponies with any age to us that would be interested in this little expedition, but we seem to have attracted the attention of a lot of veterans somehow.  Miss Patience seemed a bit put off, I think.  All she sees is a bunch of old mares and stallions who are too feeble to get any work done, but what she doesn't see is centuries of hard earned experience between them all that will lay the foundation of this settlement.

She seems like a sensible enough mare though.  I'm sure she'll come around to them in short order.  Hopefully Breccia and I have shown her that being a bit gray around the muzzle doesn't have to slow you down.

3rd Entry

Tacticssmile is certainly coming together.  I'm not entirely sure I agree with Miss Patience's tactical sense, but we've nearly got a curtain wall put up now.  I'd have just made a gate for the entrance and sealed off the caves.  It's less work, and there's just far too much outside to protect properly.  This will enclose a source of water, which is a good idea, but why not just tap it underground?  I don't know, maybe I'm just set in my ways.

Breccia has been pretty busy lately at least.  We've all been working hard to fill in the gaps in the workforce, but I've barely seen her the past three days.  Apparently a swarm of parasprites have been harassing everypony up on the surface, and everypony with a weapon have been fighting to keep them away.  Remember what I said about just sealing off the surface?

It's a shame that we haven't found any nice caverns underground.  It would be nice to take Breccia down there to relax a bit tonight.  Perhaps we should take some time to write the kids instead.  I don't know when we'll see them next, probably best to let them know we're still doing well.

Speaking of which, what Breccia has been telling me of that darkbolt mare worries me a bit.  She seems a bit too anxious to impale things with crossbow bolts.  She could learn a thing or two from Breccia about not being so hot blooded.

Diary Entry 2

The wall is coming together nicely, thankfuly. Finaly, civiliztation is being wought apon this wilderness. Even better, some tender young ponies have arrived to help with the work-load. Most of them were decent looking enough, besides the pegusi furnace operator and his mate. Surly they understand that the only way a settlement like this can survive is underground. The winged one will be a issue, for even the batponies can live underground. The mare is even moreso. Must suggest to Patience to make above-dwelling quarters for the less-gifted members of ponykind, and that the Cavern and Dromidian representive tribe's have exclusive access to underground dwellings. After all, the earth mare surely will be happier tending the farms, and her mate....whatever pegusi do?
Notes:
Parasprite sighted beyond the gate, have yet to eat our food. The walls are doing there job so far, but I fear for the markponie's lives. Hopefuly, they are edible, like the cavern-beasts of my forfather's domain. Will suggest that, with some chopped leaves, the swarm can be a blessing for the fort.

Was watching a new couple today. They seem like a nice bunch, and I should introduce myself more formaly. Alas, I only have the mare's name, Breccia. Will attempt to talk to them over dinner, perhapes roasted peg turkey parasprite.

Winter is coming. I pray to Ghar and Gerg that I can find success, both with love and life.

Patience's diary

7th Timber - We've done more work. I've been talking with most of the ponies, and they seem pretty happy. We're not too short of supplies, which is good. If we had more ponies, that'd be even better.

We're working on the wall still, and we're trying to secure a part of the river to seal off. This will give us a fresh water supply if we need it.

Other than that...Well, some bad news. Marv is unhappy. He doesn't say why, but he seems quite down right now. I hope he cheers up, we need our work done quickly.

9th Timber - We've built a bridge over the river. Now we can work on the wall on the other side. Kat was with me today, hunting parasprites. She got two faster than I could blink. I'm...I'm much more glad that she was the pony assigned to me.

I laid the first block down for the extension of the wall. I hope we can get this done quickly. By my calculations, the trade caravan should arrive soon. We don't even have a member of the Stream Caste here!

10th Timber - Diary, remember what I wrote for the 7th? Well, Marv is doing a lot better now. He smiles a bit more. Whatever was troubling him, it seems to have passed. And none too soon. We've got a long way to go before we're set up.

12th Timber - Our miners, Fimbulwinter and Mal Men have finished digging out the dining room now. I've started the process of smoothing it, preparing to start engraving our history-to-be on it. It should be ready soon.



14th Timber - We've finished digging out and putting beds in the first bedrooms. Ponies will finally have a proper night's sleep!



1st Moonstone - Winter is here. Still no traders. We hope they come soon. We need more ponies to make this place anything more than a tiny outpost.

5th Moonstone - the river's frozen. We're low on raw food. Luckily there are lots of prepared meals. The traders still haven't come. When will they be here? We were promised a caravan by autumn...I hope nothing bad's happened...

8th Moonstone - It's started snowing. I love the snow, and I think I'll go out for a short walk.

Well, no point hiding it from you, diary, I may be some time. It'll be my first chance to relax!



21st Moonstone - I'm sorry I haven't written so long, Diary. There was a snowstorm. I was caught outside, and couldn't find my way back. I was snowed under. I kept myself warm with my magic, but luckily Kat found me today, and she brought me back.

I hope I'm not sick. I'm lucky to be alive. No more news for today.

Diary 5

Not much has been going on lately, diary.  It's winder now, and we had some snow today.  Lady Patience seems to love it, I saw her standing outside with a small smile on her face as the flakes fell.  Snow isn't bad, but it's too cold for me.  And the ice everywhere makes climbing things a bit difficult.  I'm gonna see if I can get some warm cider.

Diary 6

I didn't think much of it when I didn't see Lady Patience for a few days.  She's busy running everything, and I've been busy making furnishings and crafts.  I had a day to myself, though, and had carved a little figurine that I thought she might like.  I mean, she's Celestial caste and I'm Ashler, but I'd still like to do something to show my appreciation for her leadership.  Where was I?

Right, the figurine.  Well, I looked around, but didn't see her going about her various duties.  I figured she was probably in her chambers, so went there.  I didn't see Kat standing guard like she often does, but still hadn't put the pieces together.  I knocked, but got no reply.  I knocked louder, and still no reply.  I let my curiosity get the best of me and tried the door, which was not locked.  I timidly went inside, feeling very out of place in Lady Patience' room.  I placed the little figurine on her table before my courage finally left me and I scurried out.  It wasn't until just now, diary, that I realized that Lady Patience wasn't around anywhere!

I thought about the recent snowstorm, and how She seemed to like the cold stuff... maybe she got lost?  Or stuck?  Or... something?  I didn't tell anypony, partially because I didn't want to start a panic, and partially because I couldn't find Kat to tell her.  I tried to look around a bit for her, but I am no outdoorsmare.  Kat is probably out there looking for Her right now.  I hope she finds Her...


Diary 7

Thank Sent and Pewseth!  I was starting to lose hope for the Lady, but Kat just came in with Her!  She looks a bit thinner than normal, but pretty healthy aside from that.

Dairy 3

Mal is acting odd. Sad, honestly. The dining room looks fine, however, and he is still mining as good as ever, so she's doing a fine job rising above her roots. The fact that somepony's are twidding there hooves for the chance to carve some images into the walls sickens me, however. Luckaly, with the bridge and the snow coming in, we can leave such fools outside before they even come in! But that is for later, of course, but we simply must set up some sort of "the rest is scribbled out"

 What foolishness has Patience gotten herself into! Two weeks outside, trapped in the snow! A Celestial! The settlement could have been distroyed! Truly, the only way this town can survive is with the assistance of a Underlord, for a pretty prancing princess of Dromide's stock cannot save herself from the ice and frost! Unless she can preform some great act, I am going to gather my fellow Ashlers and attempt to form a protest.
But later, of course. Nothing must stop the rate at which we are taming the settlement at. However, the moment we are fully stocked and ready, I do hope the others will assist me in what needs to be done. Mal has risen beyond her roots already and is a true Cave pony, dispite her genetics, and the Draltha couple looks like they can be recruted to the cause. Sweet Spinner, alas, has little idea of what might plauge us in the future, but hopefuly will develope such feelings in time.
