309, Early Granite: Patience Tenbankef, leader of this expedition, scratched her ear absentmindedly, watching the landscape unfold around her. Kat, the guard on the expedition, still had her crossbow loaded, looking more ready to fight than Patience thought she'd ever be.

Patience thought back on the past days. The Rainbow Coalition had chosen her, a member of the Celestial Caste, to lead this expedition. Kat, of the Ranger Caste, was her protector here, as she had been at the capital, and Patience trusted her. The Taciturn Sorceror himself had given her this mission, and she would not fail.

As she kept looking out, Kat beside her nodded. "We're here." she said.

Well, thought Patience. Now or never.

CASTE SYSTEM! Important for understanding the terms I'll be using!

Celestial Caste - Big cheese. Leaders. Alicorns/Underlords/Dark Alicorns only, and they are only of this caste.
Ranger Caste - Warrior caste. Bodyguards, hunters, you name it.
Partisan Caste - Warsmiths. Siege Engineers, armourers, weaponsmiths. These guys make the stuff for war.
Ashler Caste - Worker caste. These guys are carpenters, farmers, masons, basically anything that isn't used for war. Scientists, as well.
Stream Caste - These are the diplomats and such. Look to them when you need a trade brokered, or a peace forged.
Bridge Caste - These are the ones who, like the Partisan Caste, are workers, but assisting the Stream Caste instead. These are the researchers, scribes, translators, you name it.
Waterfall Caste - These ponies are warrior-poets. While the Ranger Caste have better fighters, and the Stream Caste better speakers, these ponies are trained in both. Rather than being part of a disciplined army, the Waterfall Caste are typically wanderers. They live only rarely in a city permanently.

(There was also a slippy mare, which I claimed.  Just wanting to prevent any potential confusion.)

Spinneret rides in the wagon, wondering what possessed her to come with this expedition.  Sure, she wasn't really going anywhere in her home town... but the wilderness?  Well, at least there was a Celestial and an armed batpony for protection.  She looks out as the wagon stops, and realizes she has no idea how to actually help found a settlement, but she's willing to do what she can.  What was the old saying?  Strike the Earth?

I'll take the tentacle pony stallion, call him Marv. I dunno, Marv feels right. Also what the hell is a tentacle pony?

Basically a unicorn with a tentacle instead of a horn.

Also what the hell is a tentacle pony?

Tentacle ponies are a member of a race of corrupted ponies (called Diomedians, although we have been calling them Discordians as well...) from Nido's pony mod. They were created for the mod to replace goblins with a more equine foe. There are 3 other types.

Tentacle ponies are as Khenal said. Unicorns with a long grasping tentacle in place of the horn.

Then there are Darkbolts. Blood-drinking ponies with bat wings and fangs.

Keshi ponies are basically corrupted earthponies, if I recall correctly, they didn't have anything special about them really.

And then there was the Dark Princes/Princesses which are basically the Discordian version of Alicorns. Bat wings + fangs + tentacle +size increase.

The Rainbow ponies are civilization from the mod (which is what Dsarker is playing as) that includes ponies from all the other civilizations. So we got regular ponies, the cave ponies, and the Discordians all living together in "harmony."

I never really liked the Rainbow ponies but whatever. I'll probably join in when I see a migrant I like.

Also, Dsarker, while I will probably claim something else first, in which case you can disregard this, but if an Underlord (mare or stallion) shows up in the next migrant wave or so. I am claiming it preemptively.

Kat looked out to this strange new land, not exactly a place she expected herself to be in but it was an order and she's not about to disobey an order.
She nodded at her expedition leader and the pony she's supposed to protect and said "We're here."

Well.. this land looks.. unsettled to say the least. It'll be a while before farmers can get a steady supply of food for everypony to eat. Nodding to that thought herself, Kat decided that as soonest as she get her hooves on some logs, she'll make some wooden crossbow bolts for hunting, Afterall, she wouldn't want to get rusty with her marksponyship ability. Besides, she'd get some good excuse to shoot woodland critters for food, blood and fun. And the others will probably appreciate the extra meat.

"This expedition's going to be perfect..." She begins humming drawing out her knife to idly play with it...

[Gentlefish]

So what're the ponies' professions? Did I claim a mason? A farmer? A miner? If I can choose, I'd love to be the mason. If they're already chosen, I'm happy that I have a tentacle in my head.

Fimbulwinter snorted and kicked a rock with one of his front hooves.

"Don't be silly, Kat. We are in a place called the White Jungles. If a single thing is perfect in this wilderness, I will weave a boot and eat it."

He turns his tiny head over in Patience's general direction.

"Well, what are we going to do first? Dig a hole and live in it?"


Honestly, he thought, that would not be that bad of a plan.

Patience looked around, at the heavily forested site. "Hmmm...Yes, that sounds good. But we should also start chopping down some of the trees to help build a wall to protect us."

Kat chuckle as she brandish her knife. "Then you'd better find some silk soon, Winter." She said back at his comment before turning and nodding at her Expedition leader. 
"I'll go around nearby and make sure there won't be any wild animal wandering into us."

Patience's Diary

It's been seven months since we got here, diary, and I've finally had a chance to write. Where shall I begin?

When we got here, I immediately set the Ashlers to mining and woodcutting. Kat took off, hunting wild game to keep in her eye.

So far, we've dug up a hole to live in. We've started farms, and even better, one of the Ashlers, Spinneret by name, was able to start carving out some of the wood we chopped down to make blocks out of. We've started on a wall, Diary, and we're going to finish it by the time the caravan gets here, I think.

Spinneret's a very good craftsman, too. She's started carving some wood crafts, to help give the place a nice look. And Fimbulwinter Lebasneft and Mal Men Shekewefhmes have started cutting stones to make rooms.

We've had our first harvest, and we've had two new ponies come. A married pair, one Ashler and one Ranger. Both are Draltha ponies, and neither have brought any children here.

We've nearly finished digging out the dining room, and after that, I might start practicing my artistic side again.
