Hi guys !

For some reason I choosed my medical chief to became count. She's also manager.
Very bad idea because she's never in the hospital (that is also her office and room), but always walking around the map with diplomats.
So my manager menu to build things is very slow.

However, now she gone also to a strange mood, but what the hell she will create !? she's in the craftsdwarf workshop.
Her skills are:
organizer 20
diagnostican 3
suturer 3
record keeper 2
wound dresser 1
plus some social skills

My questions are two:
  • so what he will buld now !? bets are open.
  • this seems very long because she have no skills. Will she die of starvation ? all she needs is in stockpiles around.

She'll make some kind of random craft.  Soon enough you'll be groaning whenever a skilless dwarf moods since they tend to make the least interesting/useful items, although it can be helpful to instantly catapult some useless dwarf up to legendary, and crafts make decent trade goods.

That's not to say the item can't be cool - the most valuable item ever made in my forts was a native gold crown created by a three-year-old, so cross your fingers and hope for coolness.

Dwarfs without moodable skills (you can check that on the wiki) will randomly make something out of stone, wood or bones and become legendary stone/woodcrafters or bonecarvers.

You should avoid having dwarfs with multiple noble positions as these can interfere with each other. It does not matter that she is your chief medic, as that position does nothing except enable the health screen, but probaly you should appoint a new manager.

Mooded dwarves will work forever to finish their thing... As long as all materials are avaliable for them to work with. If you don't have everything they want, they'll go nuts eventually.

Also, it's some kind of craft, it's always crafts with no moodable skills :D

Never had problem with multi-position nobiles, other than during early fortress when I have to micromanage stockpile accuracy level ( Granted, I don't uses manager jobs much! ).

Yeah, it does not affect all noble positions, but those with active tasks like the manager can be slowed down if they have other things to do like conduct meetings. Also I had a captain of the guard be elected mayor and when a new mayor was elected the former's mandate would remain active. Does not really matter for nobles like the CMD or broker who just enable a screen.

I have a very fuked up game, because of my noobness during the embarkment. Plus bad luck.

About the embarkment dwarves, for example:
  • somehow my wood crafter become a very good ranger + marksdwarf and is the captan of my archers. I made him also champion because he started with 1 leadership (and I never get this skill otherwise)
  • my miner, also, became somehow a great warrior and is another captain of a squad
  • my medic+manager (seemed a good combination for the embark) as I told you before, become count so it's never managing/healing and it's now on strange mood rampage

I readed the wiki about leadership and it seemed a good idea to give to a champion, but he have always had 1 of leadership and I doubt a marksdwarf is good at teaching warriors, isn't it ?

Your count being chief medic is ok, every dwarf with Diagnosis enabled can do that job and the chief medic just enables the health screen and does not necessarily do any healing stuff. Meetings can interfere with her being manager though.

The champion does not really do anything, it's pretty much a honorary position. He just gives dwarfs that talk to him the "pillar of society" thought but does not have any teaching effect on your military.

Oh shit, my manager+medical chief+countess gone berserk after a while in the strange mood.

I was sure she had everything she was asking for !

So: new questions:
  • when one asks for stone, she wants A PARTICULAR stone or any would be ok?
  • will the strange-mood guy take things from stockpiles or I have to take stuff to him?
  • is it saveable or I have to kill her now ?

Bersekers are enemy of the fortress. I guess now we found out why she was taking so long :D

They'll grab stuffs that they needs, IF it's available. They're probably asking for something you didn't have, or a particular base material in their preference. Seems to be issue with silk and yarn cloths. Or shells :D

I've not played with artifact on in a long time, so I can't speak for current versions, for specific material.

If she's berserk you have to kill her or keep her locked away till she starves. Other insane dwarfs die by themselves after a while, but berserks will attack your dwarfs.

Most of the time any stone is ok, but sometimes it is a particular material, you can see that with "showmood" in DFhack.

Dwarfs will collect materials themselves, but they will still respect burrows, so you need to make sure the moody dwarf can actually reach the materials.

I spent so much time in this fortress and, even if I decided to start again with Masterwork DF, I don't want to loose like this. War wold be better.
So I reloaded some time before (I still need to become capital and dwarven ambassador is coming, so I need her alive).

So:
she likes malakite and pig iron, do I have to find this in few minutes !? Or it can be anything ?
I'll try dfhack maybe.

It could be that restarting the fort changed some things. I've seen some people, either from accident or frustration, force shut down their fortress in middle or after mooding's done say that it turned out differently.

q over the workshop and see if she's working on it!

After reload, it took more time for her to stop, but she got crazy this time

So I have my manager+medical chief crazy, and I just asked to become the capital, and she's the countess ! WTF ?!

Can I save her from madness ?

Once she is mad there is no way you can save her. But she should not go mad if she has everything she needs for the artifact...

Was she actually working on the artifact?
