Illumination

Part One: The Brazen Sky
Part Two: Planet Fall
Part Three: Into The Barrens
Part Four: The Black Cathedral
Part Five: Faith Betrayed

Part One: The Brazen Sky
+++Briefing+++
It's the last day of the three day trip through the warp. The rusty walls of the Brazen Sky have offered nothing of excitement and even the crew have been wary of the Acolytes. The ship will soon be in close enough for you to land so you may want to talk amongst yourselves. Sebek, your assigned purser, is no doubt waiting outside the door and he will probably escort you to the hanger should you feel impatient.

Bernant sat near a wall, off to one side of the group minding his own business as usual, hands folded in his lap and a neutral expression on his face. There was a glass of amasec on the table beside him, but it was barely touched; he simply picked it up and nursed it from time to time, something to pass the time with on this rather boring journey.

"...Sob stories?" He raised one neat eyebrow a fraction as Allion spoke. Bernant wasn't quite sure what to think of the fellow, but he certainly made him a tad uneasy. "I suppose the sad tale of how I came to be in the Inquisition's employ could be described as a 'sob story'," He absently touched his upper lip as he considered it, examining his slight, neat moustache for a moment before quickly adding, "Not that that's a complaint, you see! I don't know about you, dear boy, but I for one am quite glad to be here."

He lapsed back into silence with a slight shrug, flicked a half-imagined spot of dirt from the shoulder of his coarse shirt and then picked up his glass once more, fidgeting with it as he listened idly to the others. 'Sob story indeed!'

Lyssian sat by the table, thumping her fingers on it. She clearly had something on her mind. She was amused at how one of her 'partners' cuddled a cup from time to time.

"Yes, glad...of course it quite an honour to serve the Inquisition." Lyssian said in an almost-but-not-quite sarcastic tone.

"As for stories...well no. There is little unhappiness in the convent, at least none I know of. I'm quite sure that we'll get many such stories once we make landfall."

Roth sits comfortably, almost seeming to be luxuriating in the time aboard-ship.

She is currently reading her book of Imperial Saints, whispering the words aloud as she reads the pages.

When the people start talking, she looks up, looking almost frightened by the speaking. In a quiet, almost inaudible whisper, she says "Sob stories? I don't know what you mean."

Allion cast a critical eye across those who spoke.
Ugh. An idiot, a drunk and a bloody Sororitas. This should be fun.

"Oh yeah, it most definitely is an honour... if you like being used as disposable resources. And what do you mean little unhappiness? There is always unhappiness, repression and suffering. You just got to know where to look."

Allion turned to the tall woman reading the book,

"You know, what series of dangerous, tragic and/or humiliating events got you here. Thats your sob story."

Collect my equipment and head to the hanger.
Gabriel gathered his possessions, impatient as ever, and knocked on the door. It opened to reveal the shady, lanky form of Sebek.

"Acolyte? I was just on my way to fetch you and your fellows and as I arrived I heard your knock. Today truly is a fortuitous day! Are you well today, sir? Is there anything I could get for you? Anything at all?"

There seems to be something wrong with what he says, but you don't notice anything unusual.

The psyker ducks her head down behind her book. "Um, I, I, I don't have one of those, um, sir," she whispers. "I...I don't know why...I...I...Sorry..."

"I...Um...sorry," she whispers, and buries her head in her book again.

Alba had been quietly seated by the door, poring over her data slate for probably the hundredth time this trip, and peering cautiously over the top of it at the rest of the group every time someone spoke, in between her periodic rounds of the ship to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible- not that she didn't trust the crew or the spirits of the ship, but they were in the Immaterium... and heresy grows from idleness, after all.

That, and the rest of her compatriots quite frankly made her just as nervous as they made the rest of the crew, and she'd rather spend as little time around them as possible. There hadn't been much in the way of introductions or discussion, and with most everyone anxious to disembark (or was that just her?) there probably wouldn't be any time soon- she practically jumped out of her seat when the purser answered the door.

"Ah-- h-have we arrived? I, um... i-if you don't mind, I would like very much to meet the noble machine tasked with bearing us down the the surface, so that we might go through the pre-flight rituals...

...a-and also a drink, please."

Smile politely then put my shotgun in the mans face, shuck it very obviously.
"You can get me off this ship, I feel a strong need to stretch my legs or to kill orcs. But in the absence of an orc to kill I'll make do with a glorified servant, your choice."

The sororitas raised an eyebrow at the fool. Lucky the right ears aren't around, eh?

"Brave, aren't you? You are so very lucky that the Inquisition does not in any shape or form spy on the loyal citizens of the Imperium nor believe in killing the ignorant and foolish...On and of course there is unhappiness, just not amongst those in the convent. Perhaps you should stay for a while in monastic isolation; it'll do good for any soul." She laughed slightly. The Emperor is great and powerful, but no one said the Inquisition was the best idea.

Lemanov rose from his seat and calmly stretched, his equipment at hand.

"I do not see any reason to threaten someone who is neither an orc nor guilty of any crimes as far as we know. We should not be too aggressive and vain, should we?" he asked with a smile, staring at the overly aggressive guardsman and nodding towards the sororitas.

His gaze briefly shifted to the rest of the people in the same room. "By the way, I am Lemanov Selescan, to anyone who still didn't know me. It is a pleasure to meet you all."
