Civilization [OOC] [Started]

IC

In the beginning, there was nothing. Then, out of the darkness of the void, came something.

After thousands of years of planets forming, eventually there was life. And from life evolved sapience. And now, you are at the dawn of civilization, and are ready to create your first settlement for your tribe. You are done with hunting and gathering, or scavenging, or whatever your diet consists of. Your species will grow, and begin taking over the world.

But after the world... what happens then? After the galaxy, what then?



What happens if you get Civilization, combine it with Spore, then make it less strict about numbers? This happens.

The only things that have to have numbers assigned to them are research. Anything else you just describe.

Posting template:

All that's needed is the information left below, not in the specific order:

On this day, we destroyed the HECK out of that other nation. Wow, those guys sucked.

Our research has been going well. We have approximately five-eighths (5/8) of progress to figuring out how we can use electricity, crudely. For instance, just the other day that one guy made a fire with it. It lasted for five seconds then burned his house down.

Our population has increased from five thousand to five thousand and a quarter (1,250) since 1905.

Tips:

  • Remember that the other player is also a person wanting to have fun; allow them to win at times.
  • Research is always in fractions, and starts at 1. For instance: "We begin working on finding a way to create fire. 1/5" This goes up by 1 for each post unless you have a breakthrough of some sorts. (Like someone giving you their data) The only rules here are making it realistic. No researching electricity in a turn unless you're advanced enough to do that. No creating magical shamwows.
  • You're not limited to things mentioned in the rules, but rules may be added if it's an exploit. You could create a rocket, then crash it into the moon to cause it to break apart for instance. Note that by the time you have that technology, a council of nations would probably have formed to create laws against nuking the moon.
  • Realism is less important than believability, but realism can override it at times. But things like faster than light travel, though impossible, can be explained good enough to be believable, allowing them to exist.
  • Have good grammar, and make your posts interesting to read.
  • Make SOMETHING happen in your post. It can't be just a "research and done" post, unless the research is interesting.

Maps of the planets and other things.

Xyntus - accepting people - dawn of civilization. Mapdescription.

Civilizations:

Basically, you make a species. It can be split into several civilizations, but generally starts as one. An infinite number of people can join, but eventually your species will be destroyed if you don't play it too much. (Judged by real time) A player can have only one species, but they can control factions of other species' if their creator consents.

Rules:
  • Combat needs to be fair. List stats, buildings, and other details before combat if wanted, but mainly just stop from squabbling.
  • Realism is required, but mainly believability. If you can believe it, then it is better than being realistic, or even possible.
  • Note the laws of physics; every action has a reaction. You can't fight in a war and not suffer.
  • Take your time advancing and doing things. This is like Civilization on epic length.
  • Anyone can join at any time, but you need clearance from the gamemaster to start.
  • Don't completely destroy other peoples' civs without their OOC consent achieved through PMs. The one being destroyed has to PM the gamemaster to allow it.
  • Follow standard roleplay rules. No meta, no powergaming...
  • There must be 2 post or 1 day (whichever is shortest) between the posts of one player, unless roleplaying requires otherwise. (e.g. trans-species conversations)
  • If you have less IC posts than the turnometer, skip ahead to where you would be if you had as many turns as the turnometer had. If you are at the turnometer, take one turn and add it to the turnometer.

The only gamemaster powers are ensuring that civilization annihilations between users are OOCly consented to, allowing people to join, creating new planets or star systems when they're full, updating maps, and appointing the next gamemaster. The current gamemaster is me. The next gamemaster will be appointed once the IC thread has 100 pages.



Okay so criticize, join, and other things. Heavily inspired by the Spore version which is now defunct. I am pretty sure there isn't something like this, but I might not have searched with the correct terms.

Racial characteristics: Can shoot spines when angered or surprised, resistant to thirst.
Biography: Nomadic, only beginning to settle down.
Solar system, planet, where is the planet: Xynthus, the mainland, center area
Technologies: Wheel, carts and wagons, domestication, vocal tradition.
Building to start with: Stockyard.
Anything you want to add: VERY good with body language

More questions. Do we all have to start on the same planet. I assume so, but in that case I'd like some more information.

Ooh excellent. That'll be a very useful sheet. I'll implement that in several minutes. Yes, you do have to start on the same planet for now. I'll add in a second planet once we hit five players, so that we don't overcrowd or undercrowd anyone.

I can add some more though.

Tectonic activity is good one, for example. As are distance to the Sun*, and the strength of the magnetic field.

*Though this one is intertwined with the length of the year, the excentricity of the orbit and the size of planet.

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.
