"I understand. There's nothing we can do about that... we just have to have faith in her and trust that she believes in you, and that she recognizes him as insane and doesn't listen. But we can't know." Rags sighed and looked down for a moment, then decided to change the subject back. There was nothing she could do for Lucian at the moment, save for prescribing him mood stabilizers. "...The dawn stone would probably be best then, if it could focus your inherent powers." She was silent for a moment more.

"Lucian, do you believe it's possible that so-called 'normal' people like myself or Sami have powers like yours, latent and unawakened?"

Lucian nods, "it's possible to be trained to unlock the ability, I've seen people trained for it before, even talked to them, apparently it's very different from my own abilities since I was born with them. For them it's like trying to spot a liar's sign, for me it's like a mood ring taken to the next level."

"Hmm. Do you think that maybe you could teach me to... channel pokemon, the way you do?"

(I can get Channeler on my next level up since I can use a growth point to get my intuition to 2, which is all I need. ^^^)

Lucian looks a little surprised, but gives a smile, "I'm not sure how to teach someone to use it, but I'm sure you'd be the most likely to get it after studying pokemon so much," he replies, "but I think I can help you with that, you'll probably want to use Guide or Thanatos as a starting point, they're used to being channeled and are more open to it than most pokemon would be, and I'd advise having a psychic pokemon speak telepathically to you and replying with just your thoughts, it'd be a decent start to getting used to dropping the mental barrier most people, and pokemon, tend to build up over their lives," he advises, "it's one of the things that causes the most trouble, if you can get past that, the rest would be relatively easy. Once you get used to it with pokemon that are familiar with the process, you can work with pokemon that trust you, and then pokemon that aren't your own or aren't exactly friendly."

(Honestly surprised at that one)

(I'm full of surprises. And shameless clowning. :3)

"OK. Sami might loan me her Abra for a few hours. I... think it might be a bit difficult for me to learn at first. Until I met you I'd dismissed all discussions of metaphysical occurrences like speaking to non-psychic pokemon telepathically as, ahem, falsehoods... but this is an interesting field of study and I would be a fool to not at least try it." She smiled at Lucian. "Thank you. I know training me will likely be a burden on you - given the circumstances, somewhat like babysitting a precocious three year old who thinks they can run before they can walk."

"Seivette's a kadabra now," Lucian reminds Rags, "And you don't really have to worry about it, I did the same for a friend of mine way back when... not sure if I ever mentioned Angela before," he says with a sad smile, "you're a lot like her, actually. Probably why I got to like you so quickly..." he says, rubbing the back of his head, "took her almost a month, but she had mental barriers strong enough to keep me from reading her aura," he shrugs.

(I do remember that now that you mention it, but I completely forgot when Seivette evolved. Taric rarely ever uses her. >.>)

"Is she?" Rags looked confused for a moment. "When did that happen?" She waved it off after a moment. "No, you haven't told me about Angela. If you would like to talk about her, I would be interested in listening." She smiled at him reassuringly.

Lucian takes out his wallet, then shows Rags a picture of him when he was younger, his hair was dyed green even then, standing next to a girl with light grey hair, pointed ears, and slit pupiled green eyes holding him around the shoulder with a large grin on her face, showing sharpened fangs, "that's Angela, never did figure out what kind of mutant she was, but she was my best friend when I was a kid. She's the reason I started training as an agent," he says, the sad smile still there, "You remind me of her, she was inquisitive, intelligent, very good with numbers, and knew quite a bit about medicine even at that age," he shakes his head, "she was a bit of a tomboy, probably the only girl in my entire town that didn't mind getting her hands dirty. Believe it or not, she was actually four years older than me," she looks like she'd be maybe a year older, at most, "I think I was 18 when some anti-mutant cult of some sort abducted her," he's not smiling anymore, "she was in a coma, they'd tortured her for no reason than she wasn't completely human," he shakes his head, "she woke up during my training to be an agent, I got to talk to her before she died," he gives a bit of a dry laugh, "she had actually been planning to ask me to marry her, if you can believe it, I didn't even know she liked me until then. She flatlined the next day," he pulls a small, very worn and greyed box from his pocket, "I still have the ring she planned to give me, it was a nice reversal of traditional roles," he shows Rags the ring, a simple silver band with a piece of polished onyx instead of a gem, "Angela made me promise to give this ring to whoever I settle down with when I decide to. She was stubborn about it, always was, right to the very end."

Susan looked at the photo, studying Angela intently. She couldn't quite figure out what mutant Angela was either. Mightyena, perhaps? She listened to Lucian's story, politely not disagreeing with his saying she reminded him of Angela when he mentioned the latter was good with numbers. I was never that good with mathematics... Lucian's story didn't have a happy ending... but what did, these days?

An anti-mutant cult... She sighed. "The world is a terrible place these days, Lucian. It doesn't matter who's in charge, whether it's humans or mutants, liberal or conservative. It's a tumultuous time. I feel that... we - humankind - are going to be phased out eventually by the mutants. But until that happens, there's going to be pointless hatred between the two races. And even when pure humans are gone, there will be wars between types of mutants." She gave Lucian a sad smile.

"Sometimes it all seems a bit hopeless... but that's why I do my research and I kill all the troublemakers I can. Because human or mutant, those of us who just want to exist in peace and build a life should be able to do it without fear." She took Lucian's hands again. "I'm sorry about Angela. She sounded like a good woman, a good friend. I think you would have been a good husband for her." Rags looked at the ring Lucian showed her. "It's a bit unusual, but very pretty." In her limited experience, most engagement rings were gold with a white diamond. Having one be silver with onyx - as well as having it given by the woman to the man - was a complete but interesting change from the norm.

"I'm sure she chose it because she thought it would look good on you. Have you ever tried it on?"

"Once, when she first gave it too me, she even said she made it the opposite of the norm because she was the one giving me the ring," the sad smile returns, "I think it was her mother's idea," he laughs lightly, "although..." he pauses, then his smile actually gets wider, "even in the afterlife she helps me," he whispers, going to his notepad and writes up something under a diagram of a dusk stone.

Related to dark and ghost types, aligned with cursed traits.

Life force is a basis in many ghost type moves, both towards the enemy and the user.

A controlled curse that drains the wielder's life force would augment the power of the weapon.

Lucian closes the notebook, "...it's funny how, even now, she can give me ideas, you ever have something like that happen? Someone that can inspire you even when they're not around?"

Rags raised an eyebrow and tried to see what Lucian was writing, but the page was tilted away from her and he closed it when he was done. He then asked her a serious question and she stopped for a moment to think about it. "...Honestly, not really. I, uh, I never 'had' anyone." Susan smiled sadly and looked down. "Not until recently. It sounds kind of weird to say, but I'm one of the few people whose life probably got better once I came to Port Cane. I have friends now, I have a chance to put my training to good use and help the normal citizens of this city, and I can study the different types of mutants. Hopefully even after we're all dead and gone, my research will continue to be useful."

She thought a moment more. "Well, I suppose that's not strictly true. I did always want to be a doctor when I was growing up, but it was Dr. Gonzalez - or the prospect of the chance to meet him and learn from him - that made me join the WPSF. I'm glad I did. It's not always been fun here, but... I feel we're really doing some good. That we're making a difference."

"True enough, though it often feels like it's not enough," Lucian says, then laughs lightly, "Thanks, I haven't talked with someone like this since I started my training."

(If you have a reason for coming to Susan's room, then sure, I guess. :P)

Susan smiled. "I haven't had many chance to speak like this myself." True, she talked - and more, more often than not - with Carlos, but it was nice to just sit and chat with someone with no particularly pressing business. Just sitting and enjoying another's company. "It's good to hear you laugh. You should smile more often," she added.
