"Gerrin, Niko Gerrin."  He gave her a quick smile as he accepted the hand shake.  "I have some basic medical training, nothing major, but I might be of some assistance when we are not under fire"

(Both are one time deals.  On first glance I concur with the statement, but will be more inclined to vote after this turn concludes.)

(Ah, he must have edited it since the first time I saw it - I'm pretty sure It Always Starts With Slimes originally had a chance to be done later. I planned on taking Photographer later for that mission. XD I might take it later anyway, since it could be useful, but since they're both one-time-only now I really don't know which to go for... especially since none of the three of us are stealthy and you're the only one with a dialogue-based skill.)

"Oh? In that case I would like to invite you to join me later. I plan on heading to the surgery room Dr. Gonzalez showed us yesterday and 'getting my hands dirty' as they say. I am quite curious to see what mutants they already have in cold storage. I feel that with a skilled hand, we can learn a lot about them from their bodies." She tilted her head slightly to the side with a mischievous smile. "You don't mind dissecting corpses, do you? I know a lot of people are squeamish and still others hold strong beliefs that the dead should not be violated, so I wouldn't take offense if you refused."

"I would be glad to.  I don't get very squeemish, based off of what I have seen on the farm while waiting for advanced medical care.  I'll leave the cutting to you, but you never know when a second set of eyes with a different point of view will come in handy."  He chuckled a bit witnessing the look in her eyes.  "And it is not violating in my books if it is used in the pursuits of science."

(That's why I would go for For Romanian eyes only.  Not meant for sneaking, but I might be able to talk our way past a guard.)

(That's cool with me then. After all, you're the only one with a shot of getting us through either mission without unnecessary violence. :)))

"Of course. That's what I think, too. As there are some moral boundaries we should not cross, but we must pursue results, it makes more sense to use the bodies of the dead. I would be happy to have you on-hand." Susan thought about what else he had said for a moment. A farmboy. That might explain why he's a breeder... And of course, growing up on a farm would make one more resilient. Intense physical labor in the sun and having to deal with the occasional accident. "What sort of farm did you grow up on?" she asked, curious.

"Parents own a big breeding farm back home," he said reminiscing, Dealt a lot with grass types, mostly to help with growing the food for them.  We also had a few other types as well, just to help with odd jobs."   He thought back for a moment, casually contemplating how to best describe his home.  "We were constantly changing how we did things, aiming to optimize our efforts.  I always figured when I took over I would specialize a bit more."

"And on a separate note,  why Rags?

Susan nodded, listening intently. "I see. I own a grass-type: a bulbasaur. Her name's Trellis. I quite enjoy her company, although she tends to do whatever she thinks she must whenever she feels like it. I often caught her getting into trouble around the Pokecenter whenever I took my eyes off of her." She unclipped a pokeball from her belt and held it out; a moment later, a red beam hit the ground and materialized into a bulbasaur. "Say hello to Mr. Gerrin, Trellis."

"Bul-BA! Saur." the pokemon responded, moving over to sniff Niko's shoes. Susan watched her with an amused, nostalgic expression for a moment, then returned her attention to Niko as he asked a question. "My drill instructor thought it was funny that I am an orphan. I'm not particularly enthused by the name, but nevertheless I have grown... accustomed to it. You may call me that if you wish, Mr. Gerrin."

Niko laughed a bit, not at the story but more at the thought of calling her 'Rags.  "I'm pretty sure I will stick with 'Doc'"  he chuckled.  "I would feel rather odd yelling for 'Rags' while bleeding profusely.

Niko bent down to examine and familiarize himself with Trellis.  ""Seems to be in good health and spirits.  I left my Eevees, Haline and Milli by themselves for a bit, trying to see if I might get lucky enough for an egg.  They are just about the right age to start, and I figured a couple extra wouldn't hurt either for 'soldiers' or a little extra cash."

He thought for a bit.  "Would I be out of line if I asked to see your other?"  He motioned at the other ball sitting on her waist.

"Not at all." Susan released Core from his ball, and he looked around curiously. "Geo? Dude!" he said upon seeing Trellis was already out of her ball as well. The bulbasaur seemed to smile and raised her vines as if to slap him around a bit. Core responded by tucking into a protective ball and wrapping his arms around himself. "Ba, ba, ba!" the bulbasaur said with a happy expression, poking him with the vines. "Trellis, you stop teasing that poor soul this instant. You can fight him later."

She shook her head. "I do apologize for her behavior. She's-" "Dude! DUDE!" "-always been able to easily defeat Core because of-" "♪Buuulbaaaasaaauuurrr♫" "-their elemental affinities, and she finds it highly amusing to bully him. Trellis! If you don't leave him alone I really shall have to put you back in your ball." The bulbasaur sat and looked up at Rags innocently, as if to say she hadn't been bullying Core at all and would never dream of doing such a thing. Susan facepalmed, trying not to laugh. "Really, they're sweethearts to most people. The worst troublemakers often are. So you have a pair of Eevees? What are they like?" she asked.

"Well, Milli, the female, seems to be the more patient of the 2.  She tends to sit back a bit and wait for her opportunity to present itself, no matter what the task is.  Haline, the male, is a bit more business like.  He will try to make something happen, but is a bit quicker to fall back if things get out of hand.  Neither are big troublemakers, which I find a little odd, but both seem to enjoy the other's company.  They definitely work together better than I could have hoped for."  He sat for a bit, thinking deeply.  "I can introduce you after we are done with the dissection.  Maybe you would be able to help in figuring out what I should evolve both into.  I have a couple of stones, but I am not sure if their personalities would coincide with the options I currently have."

"Eevees are gentle animals," Susan observed. "I suppose it would be out of character for them to be particularly troublesome. Regardless, it will be quite the novelty to meet a pair of pokemon that get along for once." As she spoke, Trellis started rolling Core around with her snout like she was playing soccer. Susan quite pointedly ignored her shenanigans. "I would like to see them. Maybe once I've seen them I could offer an opinion of how to evolve them, although I should say that you know them almost as well as they know themselves. If nothing else, you could lay the stones before them, and watch to see which one they investigate first."

She smiled. "I hope they get along with my rascals - I don't want to see any of them get hurt. As a doctor, most of the pokemon I've had occasion to meet are, shall we say, not at their best. Nor their trainers." She turned slightly to look at Core and Trellis. "Core was abandoned as an egg at the Pokecenter I grew up in... and Trellis was a baby when her aged owner died in his sleep. I suppose I'm just lucky that both wanted to bond to me, although I suppose the three of us have things in common..." she trailed off as Trellis rolled Core into her, causing her to roll back slightly on her skates.

"May I see the stones?" she asked.

"Absolutely."  Niko reached into his bag and pulled out his Thunderstone and Firestone"They are rather difficult to come by, and these I found together.  They were pricey, but I felt I could not pass them by."  He hesitantly handed them to Susan.

Susan took them and inspected them, weighing them in her hands. The Firestone was yellow with an orange flame-shaped core, and slightly rounded; the Thunderstone green with a yellow lightning bolt core. For as curious as their powers were, they didn't feel that heavy. She wondered how contact with such a simple mineral could spontaneously spark such an extreme change in the physiology of a living creature. "I've never seen evolutionary stones before. They're... not as impressive as I might have thought. They do say the best things come in small packages." She handed the stones back.

"When you decide to use those stones, may I be there? I would like to see the evolutionary process via stones first hand."

"Of course!" Niko exclaimed.  "I have not seen an evolution based off these stones, and am curious as to how it differs from the normal."  He breathed deeply, again sinking into his thoughts.  "I would like to gather more of these stones eventually, not just because of the evolution capabilities of Eevee,  but more to see if by researching these stones if we would be able to replicate the results, eventually making it cheaper to evolve those pokemon which require the contact.  Could be huge in the long run, but I don't know if that will ever come to be."

He bowed his head to chuckle a little bit. "But that is of no importance to our mission, and more of a fantasy of mine than anything.  Doubtful I will ever be able to see it come to fruition."  He shook his head, clearing the fantasies from his mind to get back to the tasks at hand.  "But come, let us see what mysteries await in the surgery room."  He then placed the stones into his bag.

Susan tilted her head forward slightly. "Thank you. It is quite the opportunity and I am happy for it." Niko explained his dreams, and she nodded. "A worthy endeavor. Perhaps through our research on these mutants, we can uncover possible avenues of study and realize that dream of yours. And yes, let us depart. Trellis, Core, back to your homes," she said, turning to her pokemon. The bulbasaur stopped pushing her friend around and came over to be zotted back up, and Core quickly followed.

"I believe it's this way. Follow me," she said, skating backwards and turning a smooth 180, then heading toward the sterile room. It was definitely time to get cracking.
