Hellooooooo C:

So my sticky trekkie-nerd hands got a fan-made extension of Birth of the Federation: Ultimate Dominion Mod. It changes, upgrades and fixes a lot of things. Population of systems and thus production rates have been upped.

What does it mean? Larger battles!

You think 15 on 15 ships is a lot? Try more like 50 on 50 or even more. The ships either automatically upgrade into next ship on the list, or they have 'spin-offs'. For example, here you have scouts: Oberth, which upgrades into Centaur, which goes into Saber class. And then, you have 'heavy' variant of the scout, Intrepid. If you're a trekkie, you propably salivate by now.

The game textures (planets, ships) ggot upgraded quite a bit, especially in detail amount, so the game looks like made in early 2000's rather than in the late nineties.

Ferengi become a minor race which boosts credits, and the fifth star empire slot is occupied now, as you can guess, by The Dominion. It's mirror of Federation - it is conglomerate of star systems and races, but ruled by fascist-like government composed by Founders, with Vorta as diplomats and Jem'Hadar as soldiers. You either join the Dominion, or you're forced into joining.

As you can guess, the 'setting' of the game shifted from 'The Next Generation' series towards 'Deep Space Nine', which a pinch of 'Enterprise' and 'Voyager' minor races for variety. Speaking of minor races, they are no longer 'super important, get them or regret forever'. Sure, they are like expanded colonies with fancy buildings, but one can easily play along without single one under his rule.

My LP settings:
We will start on 'Impossible' difficulty because that's the only fun one. We will start at tech level 3, while others will start at tech level 2. This will speed things a bit.
Amount of minor races will by 'many' which means 30 of them.
From what I have witnessed, Borg have been modified a lot. Thusly, we will have them 'on', hopefully I won't regret it later. Random events will be on as well - because everyone loves planetary shifts, eh? :D

Live long and prosper, friends, and stay tuned for first installment of the LP!

Update 1: Unto the Stars

The colonies signed a charter with Earth - we're now United Earth. Long period of despotical, isolationist government have ended. We shall now explore and expand our local galaxy.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is our local space. With repairs and upgrades of our vessels, our fleet consists of 3 Centaur-class surveyors, a Soyuz-class destroyer, Excelsior-class cruiser and Elite-cruiser warship. Three colony ships full of terraforming equipment await at our three star systems.

I have reviewed the political and military lists of commanders from the Despot period and so far I've found only one name for a proper candidate to conduct our interstellar diplomacy: Jarod Cain. He was given command of USS Raman and ordered to check the subspace signal coming from the 'south' part of our local space. Maybe it's the same aliens whose ship was destroyed few months ago by our former leaders' ships. If Cpt.Cain proves his worthiness (and my trust in him), who knows, he might end on USS Constellation, our state-of-the-art warship.

Starfleet have been reorganized and registries set into some kind of system, which I hope will work. As Raman was an old Oberth, refitted into Centaur class, it still keeps the registry NCC-1001, the very first starship we've built with warp-5 engines.
Our other scouts shall visit nearby systems, but the rest of starships will stay at Sol for a moment.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is Sol System management tab. As you can see, the support buildings are all here (The mod nulls few buildings, like Wind Turbines, but adds a ton of other). While Sol have it nice with population, during the revolt, our colonies at Tavola Minor and Omar systems not only have zero support buildings, but their infrastructure is terribly lacking. We will work on that during next few weeks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later we receive reports from our scouts: nearby systems consits of many M-class planets. Plenty of place for colonization and Devolin system is true treasure: 405 million population is estimated maximum, and the star is rich in dilithium! A nearby system, Trenome Sar, also have dilithium-rich star.
The previous subspace blip moved toward our system and another one appeared downwards (in this mod, most of minor races 'explore' the galaxy instead of just sitting at home system). Are those ships coming from the same race, or maybe we have much more neighbours that we originally thought?

We will see that soon.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Captain Jarod Cain met with the representatives of not one, but two different races! The Ktarians and Zakdorn live close to each other and are interested in our culture.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two more first contacts, this time up north from Sol: Benzites and Nausicaans. The former are proficient workers and manufacturers, the other, a warlike race.

And look at this!:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Three different subspace blips! Our only regret is that we cannot really meet with them yet but who knows, maybe they will intercept our scout and thus initiate the first contact?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two more minor races: Orions and Tholians! The former are also apparently in contact with 'mighty Cardassian Union', whatever that might mean (jesus, I forgot how many is 'many' in this game on large maps!). USS Pascal that met with Orions at the eastern side reports even more subspace blips, most of them having different frequencies and configurations.

In the meanwhile, our diplomats struck first interstellar deal and from today onwards, we can trade with Zakdorn home system.

Week later, we receive a word from Benzites - they accepted our trading treaty. However, USS Pascal sent a report that all of the unknown subspace blips dissappeared from it's sensors. Even with help from USS Pegasus, the two scouts lost all of the signals. They just vanished. Oh well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At Week 7, our colonists settled on both Barolia and Trenome Sar. Another colonies are going to be established at Devolin and Tarsas system, up 'north'. Also, the bleeps returned at the eastern far reaches. After paying Orions for some information, the largest cluster of the blips might be Cardassian Defense Fleet. Captain of USS Pascal was ordered to proceed with caution.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Captain Jarod Cain established contact with the Flaxians, a cautious race of traders - as well as spies, according to the Ktarian ambassador. They live in a small, remote system with white star, the only system 'south-west' from Sol.

Nothing happens until Turn 11. Have a galaxy map as the end of this update:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

PS: Apparently 'many' minor races on large map is 30. Oh dear. This will get crowded very quickly.

Update 2: The Cardassian Incidents

I was woken up in the middle of the night. We had several first contacts performed by the USS Pascal. What is more important was that Pascal was ordered to leave the sector it was sitting it under threat of being fired upon.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These are the 'culprits' behind the incident at sector 11.11, Meldrar system. At 0210 of San Fransisco local time, a pair of destroyer-sized ships met Pascal near Meldrar III, initiated a brief first contact and claimed that the system is in sphere of influence of Central Command of Cardassian Union. Pascal had no choice than withdraw toward the neighbouring X-ray pulsar, sector away from Orions' homeworld.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Later that day, Cpt.Cain have initiated yet another contact, with Xepolites. They are similar to Flaxians - they are traders, dabblers in illegal activies, and very untrustworthy folk.

Speaking of Captain Jarod Cain - for his commendable skills in diplomacy and bravery of a true explorer, he has been re-assigned to the Sol Defense Fleet. He took command of USS Constellation, namesake of our light explorer starship class. For now, he has been put, like rest of the fleet, into tactical and strategic training.
USS Pegasus took off from Sol and is going to stop by at Benzar, under command of Captain Pisskop. Similarily, USS Raman wasn't left with empty command chair and Captain Hanzoku took it. Once we will sign affiliation treaties with both Benzites and Zakdorns, the two will set sail into even further reaches of our quadrant.
We had an influx of new commanders and captains from Starfleet Academy lately. We don't have ships for them to take command of, but soon, after we will finish construction of infrastructure at Mars and Venus, we will have better shipyard capabilities.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just several days later, our colonists settled down on Devolin I, first of two M-class planets in Devolin system. In no time, Devolin II will be colonized as well and dilithium refining complex shall be built there.
USS Osiris has been recalled from north-eastern part of our border to Sol for some scheduled training. From now on, it will function as sensor aid for Cpt.Cain's group.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so it happened - Benzites and Zakdorns allowed our ships to resupply at their military outposts. This in turn expanded the range of our ships. I've personally sent wishes of good luck to captains Pisskop and Hanzoku. Estimates show that they should be returning to their starting points in eight or so weeks.

Up to 17th week of my Presidential tenure, nothing particular happens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is then when I received the news that our neighbours, the slightly paranoid Ktarians, at last agreed to open their trade ports for our ships.
Not everywhere we're so successful, though. Our eastern border slowly turns more and more hostile. Lately, Orions formed some kind of grudge against us, and unofficial sources say they have, behind our backs, formed several peace and trade treaties with the Cardassians.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We received first report from Captain Pisskop. He contacted the race called Tellarites on a small, remote system formed around a bright orange star.

Few hours later I've received another worrying report from captain of USS Pascal. Cardassians entered the region near the X-ray pulsar (10.10), and again demanded our scout's immediate withdrawal because it was threatening the security of Meldrar colony. Our reptilean neighbours are surely expansionist and territorial. Of course, USS Pascal withdrawn up toward Orion system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week, Tarsas system, located diagonally north-east of Devolin system, have been colonized.

Captain Pisskop sent us another first contact report - he met Bolians, blueskinned aliens who are great cosmetic surgeons. Along with the report, which was distorted a bit by some subspace fluctuation (or so my scientists said), came information they are interested in immediate trading treaty, which thrown our diplomatic branch into slight chaos.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another week, another first contact report, this time from Captain Hanzoku. He met Lissepians, who are, according to Zakdornian intelligence report, skilled traders and diplomats of the more legal inclinations. Wht was curious was a request for scientific observation of their home star - it is a red giant and the Lissepians are afraid it might be getting out of control. We have agreed to that. Then we got a note from the aliens that brilliant Romulan minds couldn't help them.

Romulans? I've ordered Captain Hanzoku to scout the unknown sectors near a nebula neighbouring Lissepian star to check for presence of yet another alien culture.

Captain Pisskop was ordered to rendevous with USS Pascal. Apparently, there was a slight incident with Orion armed starship that almost ended in a fight.

Week later, our ambassador at Bolarus, the Bolian home system, announced a trade treaty between our race and Bolians.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later, out of nowhere, a Cardassian envoy appeared at my office and offered a non-aggression treaty between Earth and Cardassian Union. We have agreed. Few minutes after I left, I have contacted my trusted officer in Section 31 and asked him to keep an eye on Cardassian activity in our borders.

Captain Hanzoku sent a report about a 'ship that was and dissappeared second later from their sensors', it's heading most propably was the nebula.

What awaits us in the gaseous anomaly? That is to be seen in next LP update, folks!

Update 3: The New Era Begins!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As we have suspected, Cpt.Hanzoku have met the elusive Romulans in the nebula. First contact has been established and as far as we were instructed, the Romulans have several colonies away from their homeworld. Another space-faring empire right at our neighbourhood.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two weeks later we receive a Romulan envoy offering a non-aggression treaty. We have agreed to it.

I've also received envoys from Benzites, Zakdorn, and, suprisingly, Ktarians as well. Their governments have been talking to each other for a while and they are considering a formal creation of an alliance, which would include Earth as well. This caught us by surprise - merely half a year ago we were known as murderous xenophobes and suddenly we're on a brink of creation a neighbourly union.

It will take some time for preparations to be completed, because most of my government, with me included, have agreed to consider the proposal.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Some time later, Cardassians demand payment for their soldiers. We told them to pay from their own pockets. Also, we received the news that Lissepians became affiliates with the Romulans.

This requires new defense preparations in case of hostile intentions. USS Osiris as been sent to monitor Cardassian border from safe position, while two scouts under Cpt.Pisskop's command have been recalled to Sol for military training.
Cpt.Hanzoku was sent to Zakdorn, where it will meet with Cpt.Ebbro, commanding USS Polaris, our Soyuz-class destroyer. Sol production queue was changed slightly - I've nulled construction of several new universities for favor of quickened starship production. After the a scheduled colony ship is completed, our homeworld shipyards shall construct additional Centaur and Soyuz class vessels.

Two weeks later, Bolians accepted our affiliation treaty. Captain Pisskop and crew of USS Pegasus were taken from training duty and sent to scout the newly accesible sectors. Our hope rides with brave captain.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our Internal Security agents have caught a Cardassian intelligence courier. Whilst previously we were only able to assume that Cardassians are spying on us, now we have a definite proof. Also, it will hinder hteir operations greatly.

Also today, USS Onizuka, a Centaur-class surveyor left the shipyards. Cpt.Pies took command of it and was tasked with joining USS Osiris in border monitoring duties.

Also, we noticed something disturbing on our southern border:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Romulans colonized a system close to Zakdorn and, if our sensor readings are correct, there's a colony ship in the Alpha Cygnus system as well. They have flanked Lissepia nicely but that's also the very border of Xepolite territory, the race we have started diplomatic negotiations some time ago.

Just one week later we received news of Romulan colony on Alpha Cygnus. Less official sources claim that Orions signed an affiliation treaty with the Cardassians.

Several days after that, USS Oberth, Centaur-class and name tribute to older vessel, have been launched from our shipyards. Commanded by Captain Greatorder, it was tasked with protection of our terraformers and colonists in the Alpha Hydri system.

At week 35, Cpt.Pisskop reports his ship is going through an large region of void.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later we got this.
As currently we have nothing to do with Orions, we must assume that it was Cardassians who have pushed their Orion friends into delcaring war on us. As the Orions are well known pirates and raiders, Cpt.Pies have been advised to put both Osiris and Onizuka on yellow alert and be ready for confrontations with the Orions.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Captain Pisskop meets the Klingons. Another space empire, empire full of warriors. We was asked to check out another blip near the northern rim of our quadrant - amongst several unknown configurations, there is apparently a Ktarian destroyer. Peculiar, I dare to say.

First of new destroyers was launched from the Sol yards: USS Ophelia. It was sent to Bolarus for security reasons.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Captain Pisskop has been busy - he investigated 'Ktarian' vessel, which turned to be made by Breen, actually, a race of hunters and warriors. They were orbiting Ferenginar, a homworld of midget traders, named Ferengi. Captain Pisskop will scout nearby systems and then go to Bolarus, where he will take command of USS Ophelia. He earned this assignment.

Next week, Captain Pisskop barely evaded an incident - he discovered Breen homeworld, not so far from Ferenginar, and had to quickly leave before the BReen could get angry or outright kill him and his crew.

We also finished preparations for something else. Our greatest diplomats have been sent to Bolarus, Benzar, Ktaria and Zakdorn systems, with proposal of joining Sol in an interplanetary union. In few weeks, we will experience something grand, I'm sure.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few more days pass and I suddenly receive a report of several protests concerning our relationships with other races. Internal Security was unsure why or whom started propagating lies toward our government, but they will try to pinpoint the culprit. Personally, I suspect Cardassian involvement.

USS Oberon, another Soyuz-class destroyer, has been completed at Sol and sent to reinforce Zakdorn.

One week later...

==============================================

11th October, 2161, San Fransisco, Earth

Today, representatives of five different races and five different star systems have met together to sign a charter. A charter that establishes the military and economical alliance between these five races:
Humans of Earth, Benzites of Benzar, Bolians of Bolarus, Ktarians of Ktaria, and Zakdorn of Zakdorn.

This is truly a great day - this alliance will pave a way for other races to join our coalition, and one day, all of the quadrant will live in peaceful harmony, together joined under one banner.

And this interstellar, multi-cultural alliance will be henceforth known as

The United Federation of Planets

==============================================

//So yep, all four races accepted my membership proposal in the same turns. Feels good, man C:
