The village. Give me it.
« on: November 12, 2012, 12:34:45 am »

I imagine this as being a very, very long and exhaustive essay on all the particular reasons why this village should be given to the necromancer.

Summed up, perhaps:

1. Scenic beaches.

2. The villagers are known for their fine chain productions, which is essential for keeping prisoners of war that for some reason haven't been turned into corpses yet.

3. My great-aunt-uncle-cousin was from Chainblocks.

4. If you don't, I'll send in my army of slavering zombies.

Not particularly related, but I found this during the same Legend crawl just now.

Leonidas, eat your heart out.

Protip: If the enemy has so much hate that they put "hate" in their own civilization's name AND their group name, and named the place GLORYHATE, you're best off just holing up in your own borders and waiting until you develop nuclear weapons. Keep mining that pitchblende!

Ber Brushmenaces apparently was a survivor of the war-torn hate based civilization after she was enslaved by the gobboes. Fleeing ahead of human attacks, she eventually reached Gloryhate and became a ranger there. For a year she hunted peacefully until the human force arrived. Then, for three entire pages, her legacy goes on and on and on about various very important people in that attacking force that she shot and killed or severely crippled. Judging by the casualty count in that battle and extrapolating about how many non-important people she must have shot, I easily estimate her kill count as well into the 500 range.

... I think we've found a female Simo Häyhä.

And she fights for the goblins.

Oh God.

Edit: The legends screen says she has only 47 other unnotable human kills, but I utterly refuse to believe that! Also, she retired two years later, no doubt having had more than enough action for her liking.

Edit 2: ... There were defenders in that battle more badass than Ber. One of them, Ngoso Cityseduces the Whirling Lens of Hatred, got over 240 kills.

...

I was wondering why my adventurers tended to die when going after goblin civilizations...

What a spiteful bunch these goblins must be.

Yeah, the goblins kick an insane amount of ass in world gen right now. They are constantly being invaded by all of their neighbors, and they put up quite a fight even against 1000-to-1 odds. In one of my worlds, a 13-year old goblin girl fled a life of slavery and killed about 600 enemy soldiers in a single battle before getting shot down.

From what I remember about world gen battles, the actual fighting takes place in "duels". Enemies will fight in line which leads to characters like Demons getting massive amounts of kills.
This coupled with the fact that defending "armies" get a decent defensive bonus when fighting these duels means you get silly examples of 4 men fighting off a massive army. This will likely be addressed in the military arch but until then a decent "band-aid" could be making armies getting over-run and destroyed if they're outnumbered by a certain ratio, say 1:10.

In most of these battles, there aren't any demons, though. Just regular goblins. Plus I like the idea of glorious last stands, like the Viking of Stamford Bridge.

I am really tempted to write a story about these people after digging through their personal histories, even if perhaps I would have to tone down the number of folks they were facing...

This. It doesn't help that goblins have a potentially unlimited amount of time to hone their skills in.

Find her, recruit her, and rename her "White Death".

Sadly, due to the creature sites undergoing revision, in the current version dark fortresses and the like don't exist. I went to Gloryhates - it's literally just a plain that doesn't allow you to fast travel while you're close to it. There's nothing alive there, not even underground. The only places that have people are human settlements right now - everybody who's not part of a human settlement doesn't exist until they're randomly spawned in a roadside ambush.

Besides, I'm at war with the civ she's a part of no matter which human race I spawn as. Even as an outsider, I doubt the goblins would be too friendly...

I personally can't wait until we can drop into the game as a historical figure.

Maybe if you wait long enough she will move from her dark fortress or it will be destroyed/conquered. Even if this is possible, the short human lifespan makes it even more unlikely. It'd be pretty tedious to boot.

Given the goblin civ is at war with the world, I'd have to wait quite a while. They might be able to conquer the humans to the west, though, but given that she retired from being a ranger, I doubt she'll move around much.
