underground farming and pasture question.
« on: November 10, 2012, 10:16:47 pm »

hey all, usually i play on very deep soil maps but i ventured out and tried a little to no soil one, my question is, can i take my river and flood a couple of z layers that have been dammed off and then pipe out the water creating muddy rock. will this muddy rock begin to grow trees and underground foliage to support pasturing my animals?

The muddy rock will allow farming.
It will only grow trees and foliage once you've breached the caverns that have trees and foliage.

i have breached all 3 caverns and adamantine, its a very shallow map only 53 z levels deep, which is why i need the flooding to make a tree farm underground, its a terrifying desert with abominable soot dust, and abhorant goo rain. the reason i asked is because i have breached caverns before that were muddied and they did not grow trees or foliage, also i have had underground sand not grow anything but that was due to being a tropical ocean, but as long as i can flood a couple z levels for my animal farms it will all be good lol, going to breach a cavern lake and flood a few then have it flood into the second cave with flood gates

Are all three caverns empty of life? If they aren't, it'll be sprouting up on all the underground soil and muddied rock floor. It can take a few months for it to spread, though.

the first cavern was a dry cavern but it has trees and foliage, the other 2 are both regular caverns
