Bit of a quick one today. Partly because I don't have much time, but also because I wanted to practice doing the sky right. Sometimes it ends up looking a bit too polarized for my liking.

Now click the link in my signature.

Oh wow, that's amazing. I've watched it five times now and seen something new and interesting every time. o_o

So is that the sort of place you planning to end up, then? When are we donna see your first video-length animation? ;)

It takes something... special to do what Paul Robertson does. Still, if you found that interesting, he has a few other cool things.

Devil Eyes
Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle*
Kings of Power 4 billion%

*Bat and Visor are the two greatest heros the world will ever know.
But enough blatant fanboying. I got into pixel art because I wanted to make games and had no other reliable way to get art assets. I'm sure one day I'll be back composing one minute 8bit songs a day for the same reason. The point is that my 'Do the whirlwind' will most likely be a game, rather than extended animation.

I used to do fairly length pixel animations myself. (Not music video length, but 20-40 seconds, and significantly less... layered with stuff than his. One clocked in at over three minutes, but it was a slow paced animation so that's not actually impressive)

I'm pretty sure the "something special" is masochism.

But on the other hand, it so so much fun.

I like it. I wonder - have you ever played any Submachine? I'm kind of getting Submachine vibes out of this stuff, especially the most recent one.

As a criticism, I think the tracks of the newest one need a bit more color variation. They look a bit too flat at the moment. The two colours you use for the wood aren't even discernable without zoom, and the absence of dark clashes a bit with the general atmosphere.

Thanks for the advice!
For todays, I went with my quick and easy style, but added more detail than I normally do. I like the result.

Nice.

Reminds me of a project I did in school but for that I layered up coloured card.

Yes indeed.  The gradient-ish effect in the background makes the rest of the image look like it has foggy shading, too.  I'd say that it's the successful conclusion of the ideas brought up in Red Rock and Mine Tracks: nothing looks out of place.

For Red Rock, by the way, I think I have an issue with the foreground on the left.  It looks partly continuous with the background, lacking a strong edge, so I don't get proper depth.  Dystopia Complex corrects this with contrast, patterns, shading . . . lots of good stuff.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seems it was well done.
Today I was working on making a nice looking tile set, and thought I would use it to see how it all looked together. Very super Metroid inspired.

Biogenic Cavern reminds me a whole lot of Super Metroid, in Brinstar, just before you go after Spore Spawn, and where you learn to Shinespark.

That is pretty much the area I had in mind. It was a bit tricky to make things look just right. This was the first time I have had to use anything more advanced than pen + floodfill + color pick holy trinity.
