Haulers don't Haul/Claim items ??
« on: November 09, 2012, 05:09:50 pm »

Does it happens to you also that,
in a certain point of an advanced game,
haulers don't take anymore items ?

I have +100 idle dwarves and a lot of stuff around, both to dump and claim,
but no-one is getting it.

How can I troubleshoot ? maybe it's some bug ?

I have of course free stockpiles for that kind of items.

Yeah mine was doing this today I think.
I assume it's the hauling update doing something. Not sure if it's a bug yet. But haulers without wheelbarrows are very very slow. So they tend to clog up the hallways... maybe it won't path to items then?

I think in a large fortress you really need minecarts set up.. but I didn't design them in and now there is no room. Oh well.. bored of this fort anyway I think. Must find a challenge.

I made minecarts ... but they don't work.
I tryed to follow the wiki but I'm doing something wrong.

The problem are ramps, I don't know why this system was invented in this terrible way.

Can someone explain how to do ramps in tracks ?

If the stockpile is set to use wheelbarrows, they'll only haul with wheelbarrows.  So only 1-3 jobs at once.

Carving tracks on ramps.  You need to designate beyond the ramp in the direction the track goes.

Post your save folder up on dffd and I'll take a look at it. You are on the latest version correct?

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

sorry this fileserver doesn't seem to work properly,
I putted it here: http://www.nokao.com/utopia%20-%20import%20-%201.rar

When you load the game (yes I use last versions), press F4 and then go right, there the Track not working.

I don't understand why there is plenty of claimed / dumped items around and they're not taking it.
Also, I have animals starving in F2 even if added in pen/pasture area,
and looping "item inaccessible" errors I would like to resolve.
Also, I have really slow production in the "order" menu (the manager).

This is my first big fortress (third game),
so you can write me any tips/suggestion/critic to help me with the next one.
As you will see I readed so much wiki and suggestions, I'm trying to make this in F4: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/File:Dwarf-bedroom-simple.jpg
but in the beginning I mined there so I'm doing it with walls :(

I still have many doubts about the game so I'm improvising.

If there're not enough grass or cave moss in pastures, grazers will go hungry eventually. Non-grazers won't go hungry anywhere, currently.
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Pasture#List_of_grazing_animals this could help with figuring out how much space to give them.
Don't try to crowd grazers into one pasture, they'll try to fight each other to get to same spot.

I don't know what the inaccessible would be, are you using burrows? Dwarves still tries to path out of it to get things.

Manager have to go to the desk and approve the order, that might be the slowness you're seeing.

Thanks for the grazers thing. It seems I'm following instructions anyway, I have a big 20x20 room with many animals inside.
Maybe their just too much, I'll butcher more often.

I am not using burrows, but I have tons of items around the map that should be claimed and +100 dwarves idle.
Is there a limit on the distance between stockpiles and items for dwarves to hawl them ?

I still have the Minecart problem, hope that i2amroy will look the savegame !

Can someone help me about the hauling problem ???

I activated fastdwarf 1 1, all active jobs was easy done.
But hauling is not working ! expecially for stones !

I mined a whole mountain, it's full of stone, I created a stockpile NEAR, but dwarves won't hawl the stones few tiles near !!!

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Orders Check o, then look for s
And check the other orders in general, and pathing too.

There're no limit to distance for stockpile hauling, as far as I can tell, I've had dwarves haul thing from other side of the map more than two hundred z down just fine.

And for grazer, it's how much -each- animal needs to graze with, 20x20 isn't enough for whatever much you have stuffed in there if you have a decent amount, except for rabbits.

If you still want to help me, the last problem I have actually is the Track.
This is the savegame: http://www.nokao.com/utopia%20-%20import%20-%201.rar

The Track is on the right of the saved location "F4".

Had some free time right now so I took a look at your save.

Arrow is pointing at the problem.

Upward ramps won't work without a wall behind them.  If your track went North up that ramp it should work, but the E->W won't.
The fix is to build a wall there and then make the walk path go around the wall.

Something like this.  Cursor is marking the wall location, since I'm an idiot and cropped out the sidebar that said wall.  That should fix the ramp and allow dwarves to path around it if they need to.

Thank you very much, I'm trying.

So, like this I have a one-way Track for taking stone inside the fortress.

I'm making it "Guide" because it's safer. To make it Push/Ride I have to make another way Track ? and I have to make another path for pedestrians ?
