Hey all! Returned to DF after a lengthy absence
I'm having fun in my current embark on ice
After striking metal I figured I should arm some troops so have set about making armour and weapons.
But my weaponsmith refuses to make steel shortswords?

The order gets validated by the manager, and added to workshops but he just sits around with 'no job'.
It's very frustrating. He made axes earlier without a problem.

Should mention that there is an armourer making mail at the moment. But there is a forge free, assigned to the weaponsmith, with make steel shortsword in the list somewhere.

I checked to see if I am missing something on the wiki but didn't find anything (ie make handles/hilts or something??).

Check to see if the forge's building material is forbiddened, you can check with t key.

Manger tend to put jobs to every workshop of same type if there're room for jobs in there, so you could check to see if manager assigned it to the armorer's forge with q key.

I had a look and there were no forbidden items in there.

Dwarves can be pretty lazy sometimes, on top of all those

Just checking, do you have any steel? Is your weaponsmith assigned to a burrow?
