Talking of Switzerland... I've been playing Planescape:Torment lately, and looks a bit like Switzerland is neutral Sigil, high up in the middle, and the EU is like the Outlands with their gate-towns of varying levels of lawful/chaotic/good/evil...

That would depend on the resolution and size of said maps...

I think it would be good if the EU had a bit more control. Generally good to keep the quality of goods high. But i don't see europe uniting into one country. Ever. Not even by one of the countries conquering all the other ones.
Cross the border of Belgium into any direction, and there's a radically different culture in practically the same climate.

I live in America and it is really going to Hell in a handbasket. Only problem is all of my generation was taught to love interruptions. Now we've all got ADD and can't see the lurking dumbassery that will no doubt lead to some destructive form of... of... well self-destruction.

I'd like to see EU join up just to take control again in the aftermath.

Federalist here. Seeing what's been happening since 2009, I'm more or less ready to call the Union a lost cause, if it weren't for the vallant effort chancellor Merkel is putting into keeping it together. As much as the Germans despite throwing more money at the countries they shouldn't have allowed in the first place (like Siquo said), when they leave, others follow suit. I hope to see it strong enough at one point that nobody will seriously think of withdrawing in the first place, else we'll collapse into bickering once more and from there it's a clear road to a Fun-fest.

Kinda, but less. There are mainly some derps that want Belgium to become Flanders and Wallonia.

Gotta say, it's rather fascinating to see the responses here. I did a semester on European integration in grad school, taught by a professor from Germany who had an incredibly biting wit. I sort of gather that the generations old enough to remember WWII, or even the really tense parts of the Cold War...they were mostly in favor of integration, if only to prevent another wave of slaughter across Europe.

The younger generations, those who are too young to remember the Iron Curtain, those tend to oppose the EU. Not a value judgement, just an observation.

I'm personally in favor of greater European integration, but that's easy for me to do as a non-resident. I figure it'll help counterbalance the US when we're at our dumbest, and help the US when the chips are really down. Certainly in the 1990's, there was enthusiasm in the US for the European Union because it saves us time and money for Europe to be able to deal with shit on their turf rather than us doing it (plus, many Americans secretly wished for less geography to have to learn...)
