Here's a few more I've been playing around with.

A long range missile ship, good for bombing ships like the one I posted earlier - get a few in it's rear and you'll wipe out the entire gun battery. Most ships hit anywhere will lose all their guns, since the blast radius on these is pretty big. Has a max speed of about 1200 with decent steering. Not the fastest you can make, but my faster version was always running into its own missiles.


And my early attempt at using the ballistics CPU. It's pretty effective, but pretty boring to fight in too. No aiming needed, just get near and click the button. Unless they take evasive action, every shot will hit.

That's even more true of railguns, you get laughably massive accuracy with Ballistics AI.  My Tri-Rail ship is still my favorite because I can roll into a server and watch people rage.  Snipe them across the map, and when they shoot back it hits my armor.

Sadly it crashes any server it dies on, the light variant was already displayed in action.

Now, let me continue.

Take a simple turret, put some lenghts on it, fun, isn't it? Put some engines on that, you can make it go fast, fun but useless.

But wait... bombs fly based on movement!

Imagine a helicopter blade with bombs straped to it.

Yes.

Fling them everywhere. Using this with a telescope arm (like above design has) could result in plenty more fun.

Did you just spin really fast and fire all your guns?  Actually that sounds awesome.  Try that with some gattling guns!

Played around with wayward Device - i can hug him tight (as long as he has armor all around) - and hold on.

The way to Power Ranger-style ships is open, we can interlock and share our power! (he pulled me for a bit before one arm kinda flew off.)

I feel like I should help you design just such a thing for no other reason than "oh hell yes".  I wonder, if I make a massive slow ship, could you push it?

Yup, you can hook up to a box in test mode and push that baby, works fine with players if you share a team.

(btw, spinner of doom looks very flashy with laser and is sure to clear the area of rockets or mines. De-miner, design is done)

That's worth trying.  I can mount good ships but never get them fast enough.  If you could make a fast platform to "cradle" my ship then you could push me to the enemy carrier and let me pound it!  We should really try this, actually.  I'll make a ship with massive frontal armor and a rear bumper, you make one with a front bumper and engines.  I'll go sit in front of the enemy carrier and waylay it.

I've had people ingame telling me it's ridiculous. I've had the fella that I treat like a design guru tell me it's ridiculous. It works. Now, I admit, that's a modified design of this one:



I recently noticed you can put platforms on turrets and fell in love with the idea almost instantly. Dakka! In all directions! Hoo! Question is, what can I do to make these better? And why oh why am I falling behind in the innovation race so horribly. ;-;

What we really need to do is design a the cheapest sturdy combination of small spars and turrets to make sockets and locks. Once we've found the best way of fixing two ships together in the cheapest, smallest and lightest way possible the possibilities are truly endless.

 As well as what Girlinhat already suggested, the idea that springs to my mind is a super battleship that can rival a carrier. Maybe two ships unfold to make the hull, being mostly foldy turret spars and armor, maybe a little pd/maneuver. Then someone is the engine, just a frame and engines (jet or heavy thruster?), someone else the maneuver and finally the main turret. All of these lock together with our trusty locking mechanism. Boom, superbattleship.This is a thing we could do, for the greater glory of bay12, nay, for the human race!
