Indeed. I have this whole backstory in my head as to why he is this way, and how Makos ended up on this quest, but I decided to keep things simple. I figure that if the backstory has any relevance to the situation, it will probably come out through dialogue.

Essentially, the Father-in-law is asking if Makos if he's willing to die to be with the woman he loves.

Background: It seems to most people the Green Bard has existed as long as the Bandit Lord has-even from his early days a relatively minor Warlord, before his powers expanded exponentially to where he is today. Though nothing is clear, she was believed to have first appeared after the bloody sacking of the township of High-Tower, one his first major victories-appearing before a crowd of refugees and inciting a violent riot against his occupation forces. The Bandit Lord had 100 women hung from the city gates (as process of elimination), but her identity was never confirmed. She appeared again four months later, during the desperate defense of the Singegate, rallying the defenders to fight on and resist surrender. Though the Bandit Lord won the battle and sacked the city, it was a costly one, more or less a Pyrrhic victory-and instrumental in stopping his advance that Winter.

Since that time, she has had a habit of showing up when she's most needed...

Most people believe the Green Bard is one of the Bandit Lords countless victims, taking revenge as best she can, or a coalition of women, working together to undermine his rule. The Rumors also pin her as any one of a dozen potential persons-ranging from one of his lovers fallen out of his favor, to his own Mother, a childhood friend, or a General or soldier he betrayed during his rise. Indeed, the lengths to which the Green Bard go seem...excessive. Even personal.

As with all legends, the Truth is up to you to decide.
   
Appearance: The Green Bard is described thusly, on the Bandit Lords latest wanted posters. Unfortunately, it's mostly guessing. Few people seem to describe her in any helpful fashion.

"Yea, the Bandit Lord seeks this traitor to his realm for the crime of Treason. Obey, report, and be richly rewarded.

She is a woman of middling height and of slight weight, hardly under 5 feet. Her hair is a subtle blonde, the color of a tawny sand cat. Her eyes are cold-blue, like deep water. Her skin is tan and waned. She speaks with a slight Jovan accent. Her usual habit is a Limed-Green body length Cloak and Hood, and open-toed sandals in the Hinkis way. She is observed to be dexterous and good spoken, indicating perhaps a well educated entertainer, such as a dancer or a musician. There is a slight scar on her chin, shaped like a wound from a barb of some sort.

This woman is wanted. All who shelter or protect her identity are subject to immediate execution or enslavement, along with all their bloodkin. Obey the Bandit Lord and deliver her to his Citadel alive, or present the head or mostly intact body, and you will have the ear of our merciful Lord."

Hmm.. The royalty thing is a bit sketch. The Bandit Lord never had to depose any kingdoms in order to gain his power, he actually was the one who started society as we know it up again and began establishing actual trade routes and settlements. Nevertheless, we can pretend the "Kingdom" was simply a small faction of settlements that banded together for a century or two until the Bandit Lord crushed them.

Nevertheless, we can pretend the "Kingdom" was simply a small faction of settlements that banded together for a century or two until the Bandit Lord crushed them.

Yeah okay. I wasn't thinking of some huge England or France type kingdom. Just a monarchy over several thousand people or so. More like a duke really.

Can it not actually get crushed? Pillaged and dismantled sure, but I'd like Madeline to still have a home. I was thinking of the "battle" just to be a raiding party sent out by the Bandit Lord to get some loot.

Okay. We'll say he made an example of your Kingdom by raiding it, but he didn't wipe you out completely in order to avoid having to rebuild your family's lucrative trade business from the ground up.

Okay. We'll say he made an example of your Kingdom by raiding it, but he didn't wipe you out completely in order to avoid having to rebuild your family's lucrative trade business from the ground up.

I just wanted to maintain that her family was an aristocracy, allowing the Bandit Lord to be able to steal all their shit.

Also, I figured throwing in a character with a previously comfortable life might add some variety. :3

As a consequence of your notoriety, the Bandit Lord will be much quicker to notice and react to any high profile actions that you perform. You'll have benefits to offset this disadvantage of course.

Edit: I agree! It does in fact shake things up a bit! :D There may even be loyalists lurking about where you'd least expect them..
