Modding Questions
« on: November 05, 2012, 11:13:24 pm »

I'm currently fermenting an idea for a basic overhaul mod; just for fun, really. But first, I need to ask some questions.

First of all, is there anyway to mod buildings that generate power, like water wheels or windmills? I'd like to design an alternate power system for flavor.

Second, is it possible to have two different entities who use the same creature? For example, having vanilla dwarves as well as dwarves that are more evil, or more hippyish.

If I come up with more, I may edit them in, or just ask further down.

It's an incredibly useful technique that will crash the computer if you aren't careful with it.
That really describes any programming.

Drat. I guess they will have to be Railgun wielding Millpunk dwarfs....

(Millpunk being an extension of Steampunk further back in time, before the invention of the steam engine.)

DFHack has a thing that allows the creation of steam engines.

True. I might use that, though there's really no functional difference other than I guess it being a little less contra-physics.

Yeah, I think the power could be done with DFHack, though I haven't used it all that much.
And you can put Dwarves in all civs if you really wanted.  The creature raw isn't that specific.

Whilst you can't make buildings that generate power, you can create a 'faux' power system by making a 'battery' item or similar, which is a necessary component in any (new) reactions. It won't power screw pumps etc though.
