Monster Nests

So lately I've been playing Adventure mode, which of course includes a lot of quests to kill werecreatures and feral vampires (that is, vampires that have been exposed and now dwell in lairs rather than in civilizations).  And I've noticed that some lairs seem to contain both, or multiples of one type.  Just recently, I went to kill a vampire, and found that there were a total of seven vampires dwelling in one lair!  Now, it's convenient for me because I don't have to track each of them down, but I hadn't realized that night creatures were that sociable.

I've heard stories of people finding several transformed werecreatures and vampires doing battle in a single lair, or all of these and a dragon, and so on.

In my own experience I've found one lair which had several serpent-man vampires in it. That was fun. And another which had an Ettin and a transformed weremoose. The two didn't attack one another until I entered.

I think it has something to do with having either a large megabeast/other monster count or to do with map size. I remember a while back I found a lair with about six ettins in, and I often find night creature lairs with entire families of them.

I haven't encountered multiple were's/vamps in a lair before, but night creatures always turn up in families like Nuthulu says. Usually the original night creature, a bride/groom, and 2-3 children are present in one fairly good-sized lair.
