No. Just, talk to her first. Say you didn't have anything to do and felt like talking. And talking to her was always interesting, so. Mortals enjoy such obvious flattery. First, ask about news. Perhaps any, plagues? No. Ask if she likes zoos. How about snakes then?
 
Then, ask a little more about her childhood. Say her confession made you, curious. Finally, move towards the topic of your odd nrighbors...

Why not? I'm doing it right now.
We might consider it, but the intelligence of a lamia is one of the traits we like in it. Crushing the host's mind would negatively impact that. Keep it for a last resort.
