Odd, no post for this game, really people?

Anyway, for those who live under a rock, this was the first game in the Battlefield series, release 10 years ago now. Combinging large maps with infantry, land vehcile, and air combat, is considered the insperation for 90% of all that is great in FPSs.

And now, you can get a copy for free on Origin.
I know you all hate Origin, but really, free! It's a great price.

If only that RPS url wasn't incorrect. 1942 was okay at the time. But has been well surpassed by pretty much every other multiplayer shooter since. 2142, on the other hand. That's one I'd like to see played again.

Yes, but I still own 2142, and I don't own 1942 anymore, and it's by far my favourite in the series. I'm very excited.

Hmm... well UT 2004 got a new life when it hit steam so i don't see any reason BF 1942 shouldn't.

And Orign is pretty much a eviler version of steam... NOTHING CAN GO WRONG.

2142 had mechs. And a (the first?) level up/perk system.

How are mechs much different from jeeps or Mechwarrior which predates 19XX entirely.

It only has two kinds of mechs (From the different factions), and there was ground combat. Also, Mechwarrior didn't have what was essentially ship boarding and ship combat.

But yeah, 2142 was one of the first shooters with an online unlock system. It was also a blast invading and defending the Titans. Modern games lack severely in large vehicle combat.

1942 was fun for the carrier combat, but 2142 still one-ups it in that respect. My only complaint is that 2142 is pretty bland, color wise.

Uh you mean BF2 had the unlock system first..

I gotta agree on 2142 being the best battlefield. Dont really know why, but it just feels much better then the other battlefield games. I just wish it had more pallets  than "Brown desert" and "Freezing winter"

I think I want to try the original Wake Island so Im going to brave Origin once again.
