X-COM: Enemy Unknown
« on: November 05, 2012, 06:42:48 am »

So, fresh from my first completed* game of X-COM: Enemy Unknown, I was deliberating with myself. "What should I do," I asked, "to make this even more fun? !!FUN!! would also be good, too...Ah! I have it! I should display my efforts to Bay12, so that they can criticise me."

So, without further ado, I'd like to start this. I'll update as often as I can**, with a couple of differences from the normal game I'd play. I'm going to make the tactical decisions, but the strategy (which country we go in to help, what we research, what we make, etc) I will be leaving to you. I will also be giving you the exclusive*** naming rights for the cannon fodder we're sending in to this mad brawl!

Now, with nothing else left to go for, your first decision, oh great Bay12!

What continent shall we start in?

As for soldiers, we should have 12 to start with. If you want, I can customise them up for you too, make them look all pretty-like.

*Completed as in none of the team survived.
**UFOs can and will be engaged when spotted, but with alien abductions, the choice of territory to help will be yours.
***One of them may be taken by me.

Question: You are playing this vanilla?  It is updated to the latest version?  What difficulty level?

Mind you, you gotta do stuff so that the mods work with steam right now.  You can't play multiplayer while the mods are in.

At the moment, I have been planning on playing this vanilla, possibly on normal or classic.

If you can recommend some mods that would work well, I'm always happy to try them out.

Urist McUrist, the most cannon-fodder soldier you can make.  And start in... Africa!

I desire any soldier, first name P, last name Rettokan. They well hang in the back of the squad, only ‘over-watch,’ no direct shooting until they gets promoted. He will engage enemies if he is last left, or if one is within three spots near him or an ally. Give him a medkit, he well use it on himself first and foremost, otherwise only uses it to revive a downed squad mate.

Armor highlights are red for now.

I want to go to Africa.

Requesting a dorfing whenever practical as Angron the Angreh. Preference for shotgun-armed assault, so feel free to pass me by until a free one pops up. If you're willing to take in-battle personalities: Attack Attack Attack.

Victor DeVry, an up close, in-your-face shotgunner. And we should start in Africa.

That's a consensus - Africa Base is a go. Next post will have the details of the first mission, and the first soldierings.

Operation: Cryptic Dawn

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Strike One, commanded by Private Lady Slowpoke, was landed near targeted zone.

After securing a perimeter, Strike One advanced until contact with two (2) X-Rays.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

X-Rays took cover, and attacked Strike One. Private Isabel Murray sustained light wounds to the shoulder and torso. Private Lady Slowpoke shot and wounded X-Ray 1. Private Patricia Rettokan reacted to X-Ray 2 breaking cover, and shot and killed her target. Private Anna Peters moved forward, spotting two additional X-Rays. Flanking one, she took down X-Ray 3 in a volley of fire. The remaining X-Rays attacked, but no more hits or injuries were sustained. Private Isabel Murray took down X-Ray 1, and Private Lady Slowpoke killed X-Ray 4. All in all, a successful mission.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Strike One returned to base. Private Isabel Murray was given a look-over by our medical team, and given a 9 day stay in the infirmary. All requested specialised training, and based on mission performance, each received their request.

We recovered several artifacts, and Dr Vahlen recommended several research paths.

“Survivability is key, let’s research alien materials,” said with a smile while poking an X-ray's corpse, “Maybe we will do a better job at using it then these guys.” ~Attributed to Squaddie Patricia Rettokan while handing the corpses over to research team.
