Computer Issues
« on: November 04, 2012, 02:41:12 pm »

Okay, so I'm running a pavilion dv7-6143cl entertainment pc with switchable graphics, and lately I have this exact problem
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Configure-Switchable-Graphics-not-working-on-my-Z575/td-p/787275
If anyone can provide ANY assistance, I would be extremely grateful!

Alternatively, does anyone know of a way to manually switch graphics cards being used OTHER than through catalyst control center (which works about 1/8th of the time for me as of the time of writing, with my luck it probably won't work EVER in the next few days), or if there is a way to set the radeon 6770m graphics card to be the default (as opposed to the intel one, which I believe is currently the default).
(Edit)- or possibly; how do I restore my SYSTEM FILES ONLY to their factory settings...all of them. But without changing any of my other files.
Basically, anyone know a way to either fix or jury-rig this into working?

Is there any strange tasks running in Task Manager?

You could also download Autoruns from Microsoft and look for any strange files running from temp folders or etc etc.

Do you use an Adblocker in Opera?  Id never browse the internet without an Adblocker these days as ads are probably the number 1 source of infections, especially when using Internet Explorer as its full of so many security holes and bugs and doesnt have a free full function adblocker available.

You think it's a virus?

Sometimes it works when I check "advanced view" in preferences, and sometimes it just happens to work when I turn on the computer. Kind of a mixed bag. That doesn't seem like a virus to me, but maybe.

This is my task manager screen, does anything look fishy?

Just to be more specific about my problem, here is a screenshot of my switchable graphics screen when it is not working (which is most of the time)

And here is a screenshot of what I can SOMETIMES get to work if I hit "Advanced View" under preferences in the Catalyst Control Center (might have the effect of refreshing the page)

Is there some other way to force a page to refresh?

Are you using the newest drivers from the Intel and Ati websites?  Windows Update is a load of crap when updating gfx drivers with advanced features.

I've tried updating the drivers, it either rejects them or doesn't seem to work. I would LOVE to get help updating them, if you have a site to suggest or a better way to do it than just running them. (Edit, like for example, do I HAVE to uninstall the old ones first, and if so, how?)

"Latest AMD for Vista/Win7/Windows 8 (WARNING: Does not include [AMD-signed] Intel HD Graphics driver [required!])

WARNING: Installing this driver may result in Device Manager (Code 43) error (scroll to the top for more info)
AMD Catalyst 12.10 and 12.11 Beta (AMD Mobility/Switchable Graphics/Enduro supported, see the 12.10 Release Notes and 12.11 Beta Release Notes) These drivers appear to require an Intel (AMD-signed?) Switchable Graphics driver (e.g. HP or 3rd party/Leshcat) to be pre-installed (i.e. acquired separately).
See why an AMD-signed Intel driver is required for 64-bit systems"

It says it requires an intel (AMD signed) Switchable graphics driver to be pre-installed, where might I find that?
