Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Perhaps now the weasel people will now understand dwarves are not to be messed with. On top of that we managed to slay one of their gigantic weasel pet abomination things. Neo and Vinzenz seemed quite pleased with themselves. They said they had found a great joy in dismembering our enemies. I don't know if I should be afraid of that or not. Afterwards I could hear Neo telling his sword she did a great job. I had Card butcher the giant weasel as our food stores are starting to dwindle. Our next project is to get some farms up and running. I've assigned Saegge to dig deeper in search of an underground cavern where we might grow some plump helmets and pig tails. Hopefully nothing too unfriendly will be down there. I only wish we we're sent with more than one miner. I wonder who the incompetent one who made that decision is. Before we departed the king made mention of sending more people to our fortress as it grows. I wonder now if he was telling me the truth or not. If he was I find it just as scary considering the dwarves he sent with me already. I guess we should prepare for these potential "friends" if some do happen to show up.

Huzzah. We have found a cavern. I must commend Saegge on his quick work in finding it. We will have to build some stairways down to the ground level but it will be worth it. Soon as thats done I'll have some fields designated for plump helmets, pig tails, and cave bulbs. However, I must figure out a way to defend it. I do not trust these caverns to be empty.

Malachite, 23, 126
We have migrants. Eight of them. For some reason four of them are children. Who the hell would bring a child here? Oh well. We have another miner and that's all I care about. Now we can get some serious mining done.

Galena, 12. 126
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Merchants have come to trade with us. A caravan sent by the Silver Xelics of "The Metal-Lobster of Pulling". I have heard of the Xelics but I have never seen one for myself. From what I've been told they're a nature loving race almost like the elves. I don't trust them but they bring many goods that would be useful to us. I may have to send Neo and Vinzenz to do our "negotiating". I've also just realized we still lack a trade depot in the first place. I'll have to put in a construction order for one to be built right away.

Galena, 20, 126
The depot has finally been finished. Now the Xelics will move closer to our entrance. I have instructed Neo and Vinzenz to prepare themselves to procure their goods with their specific skills.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It would seem Neo is rather devoted to his task. He chased one the of the merchants around for hours. I haven't even given them the order yet. He must really hate these creatures.

Galena, 21, 126
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Vinzenz successfully ambushed one of the merchants in the depot. Neo continues to chase after the other one. The slain merchant left behind cloth, leather, and plenty of food. This will allow us to set up new industries and craft clothing for our citizens. With it being so cold out the more protection we have the better.

Limestone, 3, 126
Autumn has arrived. If the king spoke true we will have a caravan visit sometime this season. We must prepare crafts of some sort for trading. Neo finally managed to strike down the other merchant today. How he managed to chase him around for two weeks is beyond me. I just hope all of his running will make him more agile over time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Fishy has finished production on two full sets of armor. I've outfitted Neo and Vinzenz with the most protective armor and the best weaponry we have available. My military will be like a solid merciless wall of destruction. Now that they're prepared I've ordered them to explore the caverns. We need to establish a few farms to get food production going. We can't live off of raided caravan food forever. Afterwards I'll have a wall built around them. I can't afford some cave creature to massacre my farmer. The water supplies will allow us to set up a well and establish the hospital though I hope we would never need it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
After exploring the caverns Neo and Vinzenz have reported back with their findings. They found many useful resources but were not successful in mapping much more of the area. In order to explore the rest of the cavern we will have to construct a bridge across the lake. The only reports of life were a few cave crocodiles in an out of the way location. I will have to attempt to trap some in the future. They could prove useful for food and possibly as animals of war. We also now have access to trees, plants, and silk. We've lacked any source of wood or plant gathering since we arrived. I'll have to up Brewster's work orders. We can always use more beds, barrels, and bins. He has been looking a bit bored anyway. If only I could assign the children to gather lumber or harvest plants. All they do is sit all day doing nothing but playing their DwarfMon card games. I wonder if Card plays as well. They should be being productive instead. Not to mention I wouldn't mind if a cave crocodile ran away with one or two of them.

Fishybang's Journal, Chapter 1.

Granite, 1, 126
Well we made it! Didn't think we ever would. Didn't notice we were here because I was asleep, that is untill we stopped and I rolled off the wagon. I cant believe that nobody thought to bring any fish! I mean, if Reaver actually knew what he was doing we would have fish! Lucky for me I remembered to bring a couple fish in my pockets. I guess I'll just have to hope we find an underground lake or something.

Granite, 20, 126
Ugh! For some darned reason Reaver keeps badgering me to get armor made for the military, to fight weasels! For Armoks sake! There just weasels, how dangerous can they be?

Slate, 8, 126
Well finally some good news! We have found all of the components needed for steel! Now mabey Reaver will stop bugging me about that darned armor!

Malachite, 13, 126
I was just walking around the fort on break when suddenly one of those idiots i'm forced to be in contact with barged right past me, carrying  disimbodied weasel limb's, and a then another hauler walked by, dragging a bear size weasel! Now I know why Reaver was being such a twit about that armor, that thing was huge!

Malachite, 18, 126
My dreams have come true! We have found an underground lake! And even better there is an island right in the middle of the lake that would make a perfect home for me! Then when I don't have any smithing to do I could fish! It would be great!

Malachite, 23, 126
Well not much, but 4 adults are better than no adults. I think i'm going to play that card game those kids are playing, no doubt Card will be there.

Galena, 12. 126
Well some hippie's that arn't elves have come to "trade". Last I heard bout them is Reaver had dispatched the military to dispose of them. Serves them right! We would cut down as many trees as we like, if there were any trees to chop down...

Limestone, 5, 126
Well got that dang armor done finally.

Limestone, 14, 126
Well for once Reaver has done a good thing. He finally unbunched his panties and started exploration of the cavern's! Hurray!

OCC: Could you make Fishybang a house in the island in the middle of the lake please? Then when she doesn't have any smithing duties have her fish?

Malachite, 18, 126: Oh, finally! While Fishybang seems a tad more excited then I am for the discovery of the cavern; I too am excited to finally have my axe meet some trees. Reports of cave crocs are in the cavern. I want to set-up some cage traps, but Reaver keeps talking about making beds, barrels, and bins. What an incompetent boob, no wonder the king paid me that nice sum of gold to keep an eye out on him.

The phenomenal and absolutely epic Life of Saegge, the perfectly normal miner  [Excerpt I]

[...] So, there we were. In the middle of nothing. Just to obey the king. I like to obey kings. Iīm normal. Our leader Reaver got the first instructions ready and we began to build the outpost. Fishybang got the forge up and I was busy searching materials for the forge. We two were kinda good team and I liked Fishy. I thougt "If Iīm friendly enough, he surely gives me some fish. " Man, speaking of fish... time for lunch...
[...]
After a while the weasels were dead and we had fresh meat, but Reaver still wanted to get stupid farms. Veggies are for loosers. Normal Dwarf should eat animals. This is why I decided to not dig a farm plot, but channeling down to the caverns. I wanted to get up an animal farm. My idea was kinda "When he wants food, Iīll go for caves and there be animals and the two militia guys should finish them off and we have that much meat, Reaver never ever minds his stupid Mushs." Reaver wouldnīt think about that. I told him of the cavern and the mass of animals we now could have in the fort, but he simply runs down. He: "Oh, Saegge this large place your work? Good job man. Now we can get a farm 50 miles in length." And I: "But, Reaver, this is a cave with animal and..." He:"I know itīs cave - you stupid. Such huge thing canīt be dug out by a single miner, but you did a very good job by finding the cave that fast." Then he ran off and ordered the farm to be set up. I was frustrated. Nobody understood my genius....
[...]
Then there were these little childs all around. They were so frickinī cute. Have you ever seen 4 childrens playng cards with a speechless guy named Card? It was that neat to see. Also there was a new Miner in town... I feared, he could overtake my rep by calling the caverns his work or finding something far cooler. I planned to get him of the way.

OOC: So far my first journal ever. Hope you like. Feedback would be cool if you donīt mind.

I love the persona you've got for me, just perfect. I'd write a journal, but he doesn't really seem the journaling type. Keep up the good work!

Final fantasy sword?
...
That explains why it took him 2 weeks to chase down one merchant.

Limestone, 25, 126
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
More of them. Even more children on top of that. You're moving to a hostile freezing environment and your first thought is to drag along children? As for the actual adults we have another four to bolster our ranks. We now sit at 21 citizens. Among the dwarves we have another miner, a farmer, a crafter, and a dwarf with some skill in sword. Vinzenz should be happy to have another in his squad. Fishy came into my office asking to have a house on the lake and to be able to fish when she lacked any tasks. I put the construction order in on two terms: 1. That she would carry a sword at all times, and 2. That if she were to die in the caverns I would not be responsible. I do hope she doesn't die as we still need her smithing skills for the militia.

Limestone, 29, 126
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Fishy's house in the caverns has been completed. After I had put the order in she chased off Card and built the house herself. She built it out of fish. I don't even... On top of that whenever she's hungry she walks over and pulls a fish out of the wall to eat. With the progress of the miners we can now begin to move all shops into their permanent locations

Timber, 15, 126
The caravan has arrived. The sight proved to be a joyous one for all. I've ordered all goods of value to be moved to the depot while I trade with the merchants personally.

Timber, 17, 126
A kidnapper has made off with one of the children. This is very good news indeed. Now there is one less useless mouth to feed and I found all his DwarfMon cards.  I wonder if the other children would be interested in purchasing them.

Timber, 21, 126
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Another kidnapper. I don't know why these creatures are so obsessed with children but I find it rather disturbing. I ordered the militia to engage but the thief managed to run off before they could catch him.

Timber, 24, 126
The merchants brought very little to trade. A large serrated gold disk, some cheese, and wood. We only traded for the wood though I wouldn't mind putting the golden disk in the entrance of my office. Everyone keeps coming to me with their problems like I have to deal with them. "My child has been kidnapped." "We're out of food." "The weasel people scare me." "I need more note cards." I will have to order Card to craft some rock blocks. The next person to complain is getting a block to the face.
