Reaver hasn't given me the okay to protect the caverns. He's not allowing me in his inner circle... I will need the will of the people. I attempted to speak with Neo, but that didn't last long. He continued to simply speak with his sword. Maybe we could unite over discussion with his sword and my axe. It was easier to win over the new migrants, who are in search of acceptance themselves. Fishybang and I have had many discussions being the only two that spend most our time in the caravans.

Butchering?! He has me butchering!!? My skills are best in so many other places... this fool! It has given me time to think of trap 'accidents'!

Fishybang's journal.
The more Brewster talks about the need for cage traps down here in the caverns the more sence I see in it. I think i'm going to go see him to find out if there is anyway to place some cage traps without Reaver knowing.

Granite 4, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We have captured a yeti. I'll have an animal trainer assigned with the next migrant wave. I wonder how these beasts will fare trained for war.

Granite 20, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How much more attached could he possibly have become? I wouldn't be surprised if he asked to be allowed to marry them eventually. All of them.

Granite 23, 127
A new wave of migrants was spotted. Twenty nine of them. They more than double our previous population. We are now up to forty nine dwarves. Of the migrants we don't have anyone particularly skilled so I've set about assigning them to the most useful jobs. Seven of them came with some form of military skill so I have drafted them all and our militia is now up to ten strong. I will have Fishy set about forging new armor for the squad.

Granite 25, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
One of the migrants is a vampire. In an effort to become acquainted with the citizens I will speak to them from time to time. Talking to one Obok Kirathel he brought up his faith in Lurit the deity of mountains and volcanoes. Later another one of the migrants followed the same deity told me of how Lurit cursed Obok Kirathel in 112. I will alert the militia to execute this vile creature right away. At least this one isn't very bright. Using his name when it is known to be cursed.

Slate 7, 127
The vampire has been dealt with. In order to ensure his curse would never continue we used the mighty atom smasher to crush him into nonexistence. I will have a slab dedicated for him still. I do not wish to have a vampire ghost roaming our fortress.

Slate 24, 127
Card has been acting strange today. He took to his workshop and demanded all others stay out. He then began to shout demands for stones. He actually spoke. I fear he has lost his mind. As of now he works furiously while muttering to himself about his creation. I am curious to see what he makes still.

Felsite 1, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Card's work has finished and his result is an object of legendary quality. I only wish he had made something useful. Oh well, I will see that he creates another statue for the garden. This will bring our total up to three.

Felsite 2, 127
Upon further research I have found out that the dwarf depicted in Card's artifact is none other as that of the queen. Before we departed he was known as the king. Two years later she is known as the queen. This is an interesting development. Regardless the fortress plan goes well. He/she will want to come for a visit eventually. Her/him leaving is another story.

The phenomenal and absolutly epic life of Saegge, the perfect normal miner  [Excerpt II]
[...]
And then Fishy took his fish and built a house while Neo protected him equipped with a handful of swords. That was some random shit. Luckily Neo went off after Fishy´s house was finished. Now I can sneak up and take all the fish I want.
[...]
There was these Yetis approaching the fortress. A new dwarf- I think he´s called Kale - finished off two of them, naked. I do´t know how he did it, cause I was using my legendary mining skills all the time. Speaking of skill. Reaver wanted to glory my uses with a giant gold statue. Strange, cause I had the new miners done all the work. First, I thought they would be trouble, but I told them, that I best friend of Card and Neo, so if they´d take the fame, I told, they would learn to know some really nasty violence. In fact, I had never spoken with this Card... or he ´d never spoken with me. Untill this one day. I was around resting from all the miner´s stuff. As I noticed Card taking over a workshop and screaming for stone. Man, now I´d known why he never talked. His voice was that horrific. Anyone else I´d had told he sholud grab my pick and get his damn stone his self. But I knew: "Let he pick the pick and he´ll out there for abound 7 weeks shouting all the way. If I pick pick I´ll need, lets say, 2 minutes to get his stone." So I left in a glorious quest for boulders. When he was finished with constructing stuff, I was disappointed it was a stupid grate. But Reaver, that dumpass, went to Card and said: "You so epic Mason! Cause so epic grate! You´ll get so epic statue!" I interfered: "Boss, its fucking grate. Noone will have use of it. Also what do you exspect for the statue. Card won´t thank you. Cause he just communicates when he wants to create useless stuff!" But when I finished the speech, nobody was around. "Great," I thougt: "Reaver is cancelling ta orders and Card tantruming bout no getting no fame." Happy I left.
[...]
Later there also was this huge migrant wave. 29 of them were announced, but when I ascended from the mines there only were 28 of them. One was missing, so I went to Reaver to ask him about that want. "He dead" he said. I : "Why?" He: "Killed by me order." I:"WHY?" He: "He was different, dangerously different." I : "Fucking racist" as I left.

Felsite 11, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A high elven caravan has arrived. They aren’t nearly the nature lovers their cousins are. They take wooden goods and even know how to work metal. I will see if they have anything interesting we could use as soon as our goods are moved to the depot.

Felsite 14, 127
The high elves brought cloth, food, and some quality metal weapons.  I traded them some worthless stone trinkets for a superior quality shimmersteel bastard sword. They may know how to work metal but they’re just as dumb as their cousins. I made a deal with Neo for the sword as well. I would give it to him and in exchange he would stop taking swords from the armory and return those he had already taken.

Felsite 22, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
More stupid elves have arrived. Naturally I would order the militia out right away but we need their resources for now. If we begin to provoke the other races it may lure the queen out to investigate the issues. I must take every opportunity possible to make that happen. The militia need some better training than sparring anyway.

Hematite 17, 127
The elves have all left. It’s about time. I quickly grew tired of their talk of nature and trees. However, they have still supplied us with much needed wood and cloth. With the last wave of migrants it’s getting harder to keep track of all the citizens and keeping them productive.

Hematite 19, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Today is a very exciting day. I have been promoted from expedition leader to mayor.  To celebrate I have ordered the construction of a new grand dining hall for myself. We nobles require such luxury to go about our duties correctly. I will need to start appointing other nobles to new positions. We are in need of some fortress guards, a hammerer and medical dwarves. I have assigned some dwarves new medical duties but I fear any patients are more likely to die than to make it out of surgery.

Hematite 22, 127
Why are there so many migrants? As soon as I finish assigning duties new ones show up. Twenty five of them. Twenty five! On top of that fourteen of them are children. We are now up to a total of seventy four dwarves. Forty five adults and twenty nine children. I will have to call a meeting of the original seven to see what should be done with our new citizens.

Malachite 10, 127
We have had the first casualty of the fortress. Fishy found the fisherdwarf dead in the water next to her house. Upon closer examination the doctors believe he was killed by a giant toad. I suppose this is what he deserved as he blatantly disregarded my orders to not go fishing. In similar news the engraver Pedobear has been missing for over a week. I have called for a search of the fortress but so far it has turned up nothing.

Malachite 14, 127
The fishery worker has been laid to rest. Brewster and Fishy confronted me about the dwarf’s death in the caverns. I assured them that this was not a result of the traps but the fisher’s incompetence. I had put in orders for Brewster and his apprentices to trap the caverns over a month ago. The dwarf in question ignored the warning signs and continued to walk past them to the edge of the water. He was then dragged in by a giant toad where he later died from blood loss or suffocation. Pedobear still has yet to be found. It has been four days since the search was started. He was last seen engraving the housing level as he was ordered. A military sweep of the level turned up no results. I start to wonder if he was actually murdered and someone disposed of his body in the caverns.

Malachite 17, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The body of Pedobear has been found and put to rest. The doctors report he was completely drained of blood. It seems our new migration wave has brought another vampire to the fortress. I do wonder why the citizens continue to support the queen if she sends beasts such as these to bring death and ruin to our fortress.

Malachite 27, 127
A farmer has taken over Card’s workshop. He just walked up and threw him out of it. Card is not pleased and the farmer continues to ignore his attempts to communicate. The farmer now stands there shouting about rocks, gems, bones, and leather. His actions are quite similar to Card’s as he made his artifact. I wonder if this will produce another. However, I do not know if the farmer will survive that long. Card now sits in the stockpiles outside of his former shop crafting what looks to be a hammer from the stones.

Galena 6, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The farmer finished his artifact: A millstone. How useful. When he left the shop to show his creation to the world he was greeted by Card with a hammer fashioned from quartzite. Doctors say the farmer will be fine but he has no memory of the skill he had gained or the artifact he had made. I will have him sent back to the farms as a result of this. Card however, has been appointed the title of the hammerer. His actions against the farmer clearly show he knows how to dispense justice. He has been granted an office next to mine and I will see about it being engraved right away. I’ve also given him permission to recruit a few of the newest migrants as fortress guards. Our military dwarves are too well trained to be wasted on patrol duty and maintaining the order. I also believe they would instantly kill any law breakers be it by accident or purpose and we don't need that happening.

It seems that Card has stolen my position as hammerer. I guess I'll just have to get the lower dwarves in the fort to hate his guts, but how?

I'll take the stonecrafter, Etun Dorenkikum or whatever, better known to his friends as 'Cogs'.
Despite his profession of stonecrafter, he loves tinkering with mechanics of all kinds. Not very well, mind you, hence the stonecrafter job.

He is a quiet, private individual who can sit for hours working on a project.

Fishybang came up to me fuming about the mistreatment of this place. I told {her} I agreed, and I threw a few ideas towards {her}. 1. rigging the bridge of the cavern to a lever to see if Card or Reaver can swim. 2. setting up traps in the caverns anyways and hope to catch a beast, placing the beast in a few of the nobles rooms and releasing them in their sleep. I gave {her} a few more similar ideas... I wasn't able to judge {her} reaction, but I think {she}'s on board. I continue to ask Reaver if he needs assistance, trying to get on his good side.

Galena 13, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The silver xelics are back. I have decided to let them enter as we did butcher their merchants last year. As the trade goods were bought to the depot I had noticed many nice trinkets and instruments. I’ve found they’re all made by a dwarf named Cogs. He came in with the second wave of migrants but I was too lazy to learn all of their names. Hell I still don’t know more than ten of the citizen’s names even now. I suppose I should take the time to get to know everyone. I’ll take care of it later.

Galena 18, 127
Today I saw one of the strangest things. I went to check on Card and to see how he liked his new office. I found him shuffling left to right and back again while holding a card that only said “Hammertime.” I chose to back out of the room instead of interrupt him.

Galena 21, 127
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Somehow our goods offended them and they left without trading. I tried to be peaceful but they just had to storm out of the depot throwing a hissy fit about protecting nature. Oh well. In the end they’re dead and we got free stuff. It’s a win-win situation.

Limestone 1, 127
Autumn has finally arrived. Not like you can really tell outside with it being frozen year round. On the positive side the caravan should be arriving soon. On the negative that means more migrants soon. I’m running out of ideas for them. We have the important industries covered. Maybe I can continue to pad those with some extra workers. I could always draft them into the army as well.

Limestone 29, 127
Limestone has been a rather boring month. Nothing new of interest has happened. During the monthly council meeting a few projects have been laid out. The prison has been designated for digging and will begin construction shortly. After that we will figure out some way to make some sort of daycare for the children. They’re always throwing some kind of party in the dining hall and it must stop.

Sandstone 14, 127
A new wave of migrants approaches. Fourteen of them: ten adults and four children. We are up now to 86 citizens. I’ve assigned some of them to areas most needed and the rest are left to haul items around the fortress. The caravan should be arriving soon.
