steam requires internet to start.
Its gotten to the point where I prefer Origin to steam.

You wash that filthy mouth out right this fucking instant.
Not when its true I wont.

It doesn't actually. When you're in offline mode it will start and play games just fine. Don't blame the technology for your failure to understand it. I have been using steam in offline mode to play games on my laptop for years.

Confirmed. Part of the whole reason I use Steam is because it doesn't actually require being online, and unless you've got a publisher that requires it for the game, you don't even need it running at all to play the thing, whether in online OR offline mode.

The only thing it needs to be online for is (for obvious reasons) to download games.

---on topic---

I'm incredibly happy with how this game is progressing, keep it up dude.

Which is exactly the opposite of Origin, which DOES require you to be online at all times for anything ever. I can't even start simcity's launcher without being logged in and online.

When did they do that?

Only for things with the DRM. And I know that because I am often without connection (or with really bad, something steam did not like) and spent my days playing a sims game downloaded via origin.
And the new simcity is no the best example of a game, its a better example of a pile of bugs.

It has literally always been this way. Since Steam was first released. I was in the Steam beta and I remember they had offline options even then though I think it was limited to 2 weeks at a time.

Simon I have been wondering how In-depth will the human characters be ? Will they get injuries like broken bones, sprains, deep cuts ect... What about interacting with the characters ? I know it's early but will we be able to assign them certain jobs to do ? Will they have skills ? So we find one person is a very good doctor and assign them to work in the butchery medbay. If I remember correctly the human characters would also get inventories at some point?

Also what's going to happen with research and I really hope it always unlocks new and cooler stuff, how extensive do you plan on making the tree ? And once something is researched how will we view it and keep track of research with the current UI?

Anyway loving the game so far !

Will there be z-levels? Mines? Resources?

Will there be relationships, familial friendly and rival/hate?

Pretty complex. We're working on emotional animations at the moment. People will have skills, but you won't be able to specify what they do... of course you could always just lock them in a room with the task to do.

They will interact with themselves and also the pets. Giving them belly rubs and the like. :) So so much to hook up.

Research will unlock new stuff. Things like the reinforced bulkhead doors, etc. Although some will be subtle stat changes in the simulation, and others will have even weirder effects.

It's not a tree though, its a series of small sub trees with many loose elements that can be researched at any time. Currently it seems a bit random, but it will be more apparent soon. Currently we have about 40 researchable topics.

Yeah. Hopefully. Z-levels will be an intense challenge, but I'm saving that until the game is fully featured gameplay wise.

I like how the weather of the planet is portrayed as very hostile (with windstorms and solar flares), but right now they don't look to affect anything in any way (maybe they break the outside equipment?).What can we expect about these weather dangers? A explorer caught outside in a solar flare (even with suit) will be exposed to a lethal dose of radiation? If yes, will we have ways of detecting them?

He may literally burn up yes, at minimum they will be blinded and can't operate for a few minutes. Earthquakes can now cause caveins too, and affect the mental health of your colonists.

They do also already damage the equipment, although I had to tone that down a bit since it was making destruction too frequent.

0.42 is coming at the end of the month. Got some cool stuff going in like the Megacephalalgia .
