Simon once the kickstarter finishes would you be able to post up another of those money/time graphs like you did a few days ago?
You can find those on Kicktraq, I believe.

Don't forget the Indigogo thingy.  The kicktraq is going to give a value about 5- 10 K to low, as it isn't programmed to calculate the effects of british internet celebrities. That puts us at 137-142k, meaning we only need to get 15k for the Indigogo. (We got 2 already.)

Unfortunately indiegogo doesn't get nearly as much traffic as kickstarter.

They got 2.5 K already, and at the rate things seems to be going we'll get very close on the kickstarter.  In the past 3 days  58 K was donated. I expect todays earnings to be like 10 K, meaning we'd get something like 140 K in total. Then we still got a small week to gather the last 7.5 k on indigogo.

Is it legal to give kickstarter stretch goals if the goal wasn't met on kickstarter?

Don't forget donations tend to tail off rapidly after the first few days. With the odd exception for smaller and lesser known projects when there is an article by someone with large numbers of readers.

Why wouldn't it be? (but then I never liked the idea of stretch goals anyway, either it's a good feature and might go in if there is time, or it's a bad one and in either case money is generally != time)
Technically it's perfectly legal to for simoroth to go off and build an FPS game called maia if he really wanted to, that would cover the attempt requirement kickstarter has. (yes I'm sure he wouldn't, it's just an example)

Yes, kickstarter doesn't enforce any of that.  Nor does it enforce the project actually getting done.  simoroth could just tack on the unhit kickstarter stretch goals to the indiegogo and see where it goes from there...  Also putting updates there too, to keep the flow going.

I won't report him to the game authorities if you don't.

Money often does equal time, especially for projects like this that don't exactly have a hard deadline set (which is the reason some groups really like kickstarter). Money means you can hire people to do things instead of doing them yourself, earning you a lot more man-hours, for example. Many stretch goals are explicitly this sort of thing - more art produced, more molds cast, more stories written. It's often either "with this much more money, we can order this many more things" or "with this much more money, we can pull in an additional team member/one of our team-members can do this full-time, meaning we can get a lot more done"

For some games the stretch goals made perfect sense

Often the stretch goals I see are for improved music tracks or graphics. Something that the creators would have to outsource.

For others... they were just waste of time thank yous for donating. (For example one kickstarter the highest level was just that they would make a "making of" documentary)

You do need to hire a whole team to do it, of course. I hope it's not something they're doing themselves.

But yeah, game value approaches zero. ((Though I'm quite interested in such a documentary.))

While I'd never raise a pledge because of a documentary, they can be really quite interesting and I always appreciate it when they exist.

Hense why some stretch goals are just thank you's

And some actually use the money dirrectly

And lastly some use the money to put their game into development longer.

I would be interested to see the after-launch sale figures of games that have been kickstarted.
Logic says they should be lower, as the "hardcore" audience has either funded or rejected them months ago. (true, some may wait for reviews)

But how big is the effect?
