Good coverage Simon.

I'd totally missed that! I was having a beer with the PC Gamer guys and they told me theyd put an article online, I had no idea this one even existed!

The game is currently showing at minecon and I gave a talk at Explay yesterday. I'm starting to get nervous about the Steam release. :|

You will get hundreds of people who don't understand the term 'alpha' complaining that it is an alpha and/or calling you a scammer.  After they all get bored you'll probably get a some pretty useful suggestions/bug reports/feedback.  Such is life.

I enjoyed that article, quite entertaining. :)

I've been holding off playing Maia in these early stages, tbh. I'm worried of losing the 'magic' of discovery before it becomes anything like a proper, playable game. Same with Cube World, I won't touch it until it's had several more big updates, because I want to fully enjoy it.

Yeah. I've been putting out fortnightly releases for the last few months and it's been ok and seems to keep people interested. Especially those waiting for specific bugs or system support.

Edit: Talking of which 0.36 went out this weekend.

If anyone is interested I've been putting out builds on 0.37.

Turned on atmosphere simulation. So now you have to keep your air supply going or face asphyxiation!

How playable are these builds? I'm tempted to try them out, but I also don't want to spoil myself on the game too much before it's finished.

That was probably Minecon! Went rather well, lots and lots of interest. :)

Or it may have been the Edge preview. Which is coming next month, I hope they liked it, but just getting in Edge is pretty huge. I talked about the game for 2.5 hours straight and the interviewer was really interested, so I think it will be positive. :D

Finally submitted to Steam today. I am now absolutely bricking it.

The new trailer is looking cool though. I'll post it when Nick is done with the final sound tweaks. I had to really fix up the performance to get fraps to capture at 30fps at 1080p+. So some people might see 50%+ speed increases in 0.38. Still have way way way too many features to get in before Tuesday though!

I have some PR guys dealing with all the press stuff so at least I don't have to worry about that. Our press releases are all "in universe". :D

Contact with Maia team lost

Maia Earth Comm HQ has confirmed that contact has been lost with the Maia expedition following a ‘blackout’.

It is thought that the planet's sudden environmental changes have resulted in the communication failure.

Previously, factors such as the planet’s harsh atmosphere and indigenous life have been responsible for communication and progress delays, but engineers on Maia have managed to weather the conditions and contact has rarely been lost for more than a week.

An Earth Comm HQ spokesperson confirmed other recent reports of ‘ferocious indigenous creature attacking colonists’ and ‘probes being knocked out by solar storms,’ but added: ‘It really is too soon to speculate on the exact nature or cause of the blackout.’

The Maia mission has seen a select group of scientists, engineers, biologists and other specialists investigating the planet and attempting to make it suitable for human habitation.

Arnold Heinberg of the European Space Research Department stated: ‘I'm sure that the people on Maia, they're perfectly safe.

‘We've known for a few years that Maia had the potential to become habitable by humans, and early signs have been very promising."

Unusual ‘poetry’

Several media outlets have also reported unusual transmissions that have been picked up by amateur radio enthusiasts across the world and which seem to have their origins on Maia.

The transmissions vary, some containing obscure ‘poetry’, with themes such as death, love and how a mechanic spends an unusual amount of time locked in a room full of oil, according to one report.

Communication specialist Jennifer Ryder claimed that the source of these transmissions are from the AI operated machines on Maia and not manually inputted by the humans that live there.

Ryder told us that she ‘couldn't reveal any more information’ even if she had any, but that ‘mankind should prepare itself for a cosmic change.’

As a person with horrible experience with steam, good luck. You will need it in larger quantities than I can provide.
