I doubt it's going to be about the same characters.
What are they going to do? Fly around marveling in the peace they created for 3 hours?

So what's getting mangled first, Star Wars or Sailor Moon? Take your pick.

The expanded universe does a decent job of making peace not so peaceful pretty much immediately after RotJ.  There's the Imperial Remnant (the Empire didn't just end when Palpatine died), the fact that Palpatine refused to stay dead, and five dozen other things I'm forgetting.  Luke, Han and Leia play big parts in a large amount of EU stuff.

I wouldn't mind seeing movies about other characters though.  Maybe a bit less Jedi though?  Maybe?

Disney can target kids all they want, if they ignore everyone else the movies will tank as much as a star wars movie can tank, especially if they ignore things that are considered [important/relevant/"well known"] in the process (or if they replaced the dramatic orchestra music with your typical disney film tune)
...Except for midichlorians. I doubt many people would mind them not remembering to put those in.

Although, if they can make it similar to the original clone wars series (not the current one or the movie, this one), I'd like it. That was pretty awesome.

On the YV, I'd say that as much as they were kinda sorta interesting and yet not at the same time, they did at least make one interesting part with Ganner.

Several times, actually, if you count the his clone bodies.

There are plenty of bad Star Wars productions out there, and it doesn't matter to me who makes them. But every new Star Wars creation has the potential to be good. So I'm just fine with this. Kind of surprised.

Actually, the thing is, the Star Wars Universe is about ten million times more awesome than the movies depict. Before [During the Original Sith!] and after [we're talking inter-universe warfare] the movies, Star-Wars-wise, is way, way more interesting. Go ahead, browse the Wookiepedia.

Though I doubt Disney will do anything of the sort, so oh well. :\

Yeah, I can't really see them using any expanded universe stuff.

So it was more me hoping that they'd just take the franchise and quietly make their own shit up, rather than taking the existing characters and attempting to shoehorn them into new situations.

Easiest way would be AU material. Just circumvent the EU entirely and add a second timeline.

Star Wars nerds scare me. I'm not sure if this will make them scarier or more hilarious.

Ooh, what about a timeline where the original rebel alliance Was destroyed by the Death Star or something to that effect. Imagine the possibilities.
