So hey I think I'm going to change to human. I'd rather live shallowly than not have any surface to play with.

Plus impenetrable homes ftw.

You... what?  You don't need a wagon for anything.  There is no point to having it.  It's just a way to explain how you got wherever you are.  It doesn't cost any points.

You still need a stone. Use malachite and you can get a pick out of it with just a stone, a plump helmet, and an anvil if you do it right.

Uhh... I can't find a Goblin race mod.  The one that was posted earlier on this thread is out of date.  Took me five worlds without a single gobby to realize it.

EDIT: I just did it myself, with a quick find&replace job.  Probably not that good, but it works.  Also, make sure to get rid of the [NOEAT] and [NODRINK].  Also to add [BABYSNATCHER] to entity raws if you're replacing Dwarves with Gobby's like I am.

EDIT EDIT: Well, I used DFHack to kill all but one dwarf, and all the resulting migrants.  One problem.  Well okay, more like seventeen problems.
But one bearing down on me right now.

If you're an elf like me, then yes.
In fact, I'll do just that, nothing but the wagon....

...and half a dozen corpses.

Well, now he won't eat.  I don't know why, he has prepared meals.  I'll just have to come back to it once I figure it out, I guess.  I really don't want him to die of stupidity.

Here is the modified files.  It should work, but I cannot make a guarantee.  If it does, time to begin the search for the world.

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7099

Edit: forgot to add the ability to use wheelbarrows and mine carts to humans, goblins, and elves.  Someone might want to reupload.  Remember, use a fresh raw file!

Also, can we bring/catch pets?

Yes.

So hey I think I'm going to change to human. I'd rather live shallowly than not have any surface to play with.

Plus impenetrable homes ftw.

Don't forget the ability to quarry to lower levels!  And building rooms in the walls of the quarry, due to it being close to outside!

I think I'll try it as a goblin (if it works). I'll take it without wheelbarrows, don't think it's very useful for hermit.

So, goblins seems to work (at least until embark screen), but the pets of goblins are trolls. That would be ok, but trolls cost 1pt each. So either we count them for more points, or either we don't use them at all.
Also, goblins can't farm (apparently), but that sounds good.

And, can we use the animals with the wagon (i.e. butcher them ?) or are they not part of the hermit ?

So... What, the first level of stone? The first three? Five? I think two is a good number for stone layers, so long most of your living quarters is upstairs.

Ok, so the goblins in the modified files can't do training weapons (so no training axe to cut tree). The rest of carpenter seems good.
Mason, mechanics, kitchen, still, clothier, loom, jeweler, siege, ashery, dyer  works fine.
Craftsman : no rock pot, hive, nest box, jug, (tools). Except pot, I think that's ok.
Bowyer makes bow and crossbow. The metalsmith industry seems fine too (with gob weapons too).
I think that butcher and tanner works too, but as we can't butcher trolls (they're not in "Animals") I haven't tried.
Farms seems to work in surface, but there's no seeds/plants available at embark.
No screw press, and no soap maker. Kiln has only "collect clay" (but glass works).

I think we should allow subterrean crops, kiln, rock pot (wheelbarrow is in tools too) and training weapons. I can do it, but it's late, and i'll upload tomorrow.

Alright, that sounds good.
I recommend we all get some practice with whatever race we're using, playing with the new styles, so we won't die too quickly.

As long as the pit is open,  it can go pretty far down.  I am thinking 5 tiles or 3 z-levels away from the surface is a good idea for the distance.

Hermit mode is basically just regular fortress mode, but with only one dwarf/human/elf/goblin/etc.
