Rhesus politics

Humans and monkeys share Machiavellian intelligence

Reminded me of Dwarf Fortress in a tangential fashion.

At least the humans are good enough to bring me barrels of booze instead of just trying to run off with my stone mugs without paying :|

Maybe that's why I don't eat the humans.

That, and because you don't know where those humans have been...

Monkeysphere is a brilliant theory! It explains so many of our reactions in DF too.
New migrants? Outside the sphere. *locks them out*
Nobles? Outside the sphere. *drops a bridge on them"
Rhesus Macaques? You get the idea.
I've always thought that we see ourselves at the same social status as the first eight (well, a bit higher because we're ordering them around). So when interfering nobles get in the way, they get whatever we feel appropriate. I've not killed one on purpose for ages, but I still resent them when they get my skilled operators locked up or beaten for not making enough rope reed thongs or whatever.

Still, it scares me that the macaques keep running off with the crappy -Rhesus Macaque bone helmets- I leave outside. They make great flapjacks though.

Also known as Dunbar's number.  ;)

Yep, all the more reason to keep your fortress population under 150.

I'm just glad we're not dealing with bonobo politics.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

Yea, I tend to play favourites with those first eight, giving them tombs (as opposed to everyone else who gets chasmed) and so on.

I give my original eight and any legendary/artifact maker special treatment. Everyone else just is kinda... there.
