Oh, this isnt a healthy thread for me. But I have one question, whats "kenophobia?"..
(P.s, picking up some of these games afterschool )
Kenophobia is the fear of voids or empty spaces. There are a couple places where this can pop up.
There are landscapes like this:
If I was in the middle of this I might just cry, because there is no landmarks of any kind.
Then there is what I'm running into in these games: Darkness. Without the ability to see what's at the end of the room you need to keep going, even if it means walking blindly forward without being able to see anything.
Closure is a special case of darkness. In this game things only exist in the light, so moving a light can make things come in and out of existence. If I'm expecting to drop through the floor everything is fine, but if I'm not then I'll briefly gasp, panic in terror, and fall to my death.
P.S. If you're kenophobic/nyptophobic, I'd recommend the game called SCP-087 rather than the Staircase (which is a lot more linear). It looks worse visually (which isn't saying much), but the gameplay is a lot more random, scarier, and just as dark. That one's free, but I wouldn't put it's lifetime past a couple hours overall.
If you're looking for general horror, go for Silent Hill 1-3. They're dated, but they're scary as hell. Then there is Amnesia. If you haven't played it, but you're looking for true survival horror this is for you. It has a slow build up, but it's amazing once it gets going.
Just remember, play in the dark with the proper settings for a better experience. Sure it might be a little hard to see, but seeing things well from a distance makes things a lot less scary. Let the audio and darkness let your mind run, especially for Amnesia.
