D'Toh manages to hit the human! A 9 appears above his head, followed by a 6 when I'Gix connects with her eldritch blast. The corpses are looted, and XP is gained.

I am actually rolling this stuff out.
Hitting is opposed d20 rolls, damage varies by weapon, and it all gets bonuses from appropriate attributes. Or penalties. PCs also add their level to their attack rills.
Spells usually cost MP, but warlocks' schtick is spells with minimal MP cost, especially on weaker spells like I'Gix's blasts.
Loot is taking inspiration from the D&D 3.5 DMG, plus an appropriate item per enemy.
You get half XP for not dealing any damage, +50% for killing an enemy signle-handedly, and -75% if you fall unconscious in a battle.
