Meanwhile, at the Cataphract, the huge display of fireworks shreds through the automatons and easily takes them out, clearing the way forward. Literally, they explode into molten copper.

Maria starts to go forward...Until she hears a hissing.

"That'd be the steam venting. Probably in our direction. You guys run. I've been through worse."

She presses onwards and soon disappears into a cloud of steam that rolls through the corridor. Camille, sensibly, is outside the corridor long before she even sees the cloud.

^{"If it's actually venting it's boilerrrrs, then being in that corrrrridorrrr is a horrrrible idea."}

[Vorthon]

Maria hears a voice in her mind, whispering. It seems to echo and reverberate and generally sounds weird.

"He͢l͠l͡o̴.̧"

[Twi]

Maria sighs. "Hello."

She's still going through the steam. Which would be terrible for an unprotected human, but Maria is neither unprotected nor human.

[Vorthon]

I mu̸s̸t say҉,̛ yo̴ù a̧r͡e͠ a ͏quite ̡fa̡s̨cin҉atin̶g̷ ̵pie̶ce of ̕mach̨ineŗy͏.̶ N͢ot͠ in ̛ter̛ms҉ ̵óf̴ y͢o͢ur ́indiv̀iduąl҉ comp̧one̶n̢t̛s,́ ̨mínd y͏où, bu̕t merel̷y i̸n t̢he way y͡o̡u a̸re̢ a͡ssem͠bl͏ed̸.̷

"From what I am told, that is not a name, but a word that brings terror. Perhaps it would be helpful to choose another, more innocuous name. I can't imagine that people running away screaming is convenient."

[Vorthon]

Maria makes her way into the engine room. It's absolutely full of steam, and she can barely see a few feet in front of her. The phantom sounds of battle, shouted orders and cannon fire echo throughout the room.

[Vorthon]

Maria sighs.

"Ask someone else. I could not accomplish such a task even if I were willing."

She searches through the steam for something to break, and eventually finds a old, rusted longsword.

[Vorthon]

I ám̕ ̕un̴àble͏ ҉t͡o.̷ ̀Ţhe̸ ̷o͏r̴g͢a̡nics seem o̡ddly̡ ̧r̕es͢i͢stant̴ to ̢ḿý ͡attempt̷s to co̵nta̛ct̛ ͠them.

Maria breaks the sword, to no effect. She wanders around, finds the boiler, and tries to shut it off. Doesn't budge.
