Richard stumbles back, and her foot makes contact with his sword.

"Oh HELL no."

"Good move."

She takes his stumble as an opportunity to press a flurry of punches high and low, left and right, fake and real...

Richard gets thrown aside by a punch to the right, but as he flies, he sends his sword into Maria's left arm.

"Bugger!"

It cuts slightly into Maria's arm, exposing a glimmer of gleaming, spinning clockwork. She shrugs it off and grabs the sword by the blade with the help of her gauntlets, wrenching it towards her and possibly him with it. Then she basically crushes him in a rather hefty bear hug, punching the back of his torso a bit for good measure. (Assuming she succeeds in making him stumble towards her, anyways.)

"Hmph."

Richard kicks off her, using the sword as leverage, attempting to wrench it away and trig to keep away from her free hand.

"You fight well. Would've liked a friend like you back home!"

Maria grinned and pulled back. She was only mildly surprised when a certain black widow-patterned metal spider on her shoulder pulled along with her. And pulled hard. She anchored one foot to the ground, with the help of the spikes in her boot, and sent a sweeping kick at Richard with the other leg, aiming again to make him stumble and knock it down.

"You're not half bad either!"

Richard spun to dodge the attack, before pulling hard.

Maria smirked.
"You know, if it's a battle of raw strength you want, I'm going to win..."

Indeed, she anchored both feet into the ground and finally succeeded in wrenching it out of Richard's grip. (Unless, of course, he has some contingency measure of strength not yet mentioned.) The little spider leaped onto the blade and turned back into the sheath around it.

"Since you're more fragile than me, I'll keep it like this if I'm using it on you."

She grinned and promptly tried to bash Richard's shoulder in.

Richard fell back to dodge and smacked his fist into her arm.

((Unless you count Personas as contingency measures, nope.))

Richard hit her arm, but probably hurt himself more than her. He's built around brittle bones, she's made of flexible metal.  Which is to say, it really didn't do much.

Maria chuckled and followed up with a number of heavy, largely unaimed swings at Richard's chest, torso, etc.

Richard ducked and swerved, but got hit in the shoulder.

As he flies back, he grabs Maria's arm to either tether himself or drag her with him.

James gets up and silently watches the two spar.

Richard grunted and held his shoulder.

He had fought before; he wasn't some sort of weakling, but the automaton was both stronger and more experienced.

And his hands and shoulder were hurting.

He looked up and nodded, before sitting down, grunting.

"I'm fine. My hands are just sore from holding a bloody great sword and hitting her, and my shoulder hurts from the beating.

I'll just rest for a bit."
