Think of it as the patterns of fate- or perhaps narrative causality. If something happens once, it's more likely to happen again. History repeats itself. Who's to say it doesn't span across universes, too? That would probably explain why they all have relatively similar fundamental laws. Enough that you didn't cease to exist on arriving here.

Nathan tentatively pokes Sapphira.
