"Hm. Is this how all spells work in your world? Seems slightly impractical."

"All magic involves symbols of power of one sort or another. But it need not be engraved: it can be words, or gestures, for instance. "

Lucas and Cath are mostly discussing things.
"So then, I see this little tiny creature thing, right? All dressed up in a Jester's outfit, and anything. It had tentacles too, and looked like a cat. Or was it a dog... Well, anyways, this chick comes up to me, blasts the thing, and helps me out. Leads me to a place like a larger version of Nayaru's uh... Hive. She takes off the hood, and it turns out she was another troll. But that was the first time I saw a troll, though, in that timeline. So she tells me her name. Paige. Weird, right?"
"Wait, she had a human name. But she was a troll?"
"Actually, she explained that to me. She wasn't an actual troll, but through a accident involving a six pack of soda, a staff that does the same thing as the veils do, and a messed up way of holding things called a captchalogue modus."
"Okay..."
"So, she explains some things about the predicament I was in. She apparently was in the same situation as we are now, sorta. Also, Alternate Coyote owes me 20 credits."
"And how is that?"
"Me and him made a bet about whether or not earth existed at all. He lost."
"Okay?"

"Ah, yes, that's how mine works as well. I had just never heard of writing the symbols on one's skin. But then, you're a statue so..."
She seems to lose her train of thought listening to what Lucas is going on about.

 " Many Abyssal mages write at least a few runes on their skin using ink. At the very least, they can never misplace them. Handy for emergencies. "

Orichalcum chuckles, before turning her attention to Lucas's thing.

"That is a most...interesting beast, actually. "

"I suppose I can see the use." Ariana shrugs.

"Good question. I'll tell you tomorrow. I'm feeling a bit tired."
He fell asleep.

"When your city is attacked by rogue Lava Spiders, trust me, you want your spells on hand. Or so all the mages tell me."

Orichalcum looks at Lucas, then at Cath.

"Does he normally do that?"

"Believe me, I always keep my spells on hand. If not I'd be long dead- well, perhaps not dead, but close enough to it."
Ariana pokes Lucas lightly.

" Well, some people have the luxury of being able to sit around in a nice little room or two and study. I take it you are not one of them. "
