Siquo, buying the upgrade version will give you access to the full version, you'll just need to spend time with tech support to activate it.

FTFY.  :P

Going to be at least a week before I have time for an operation of this magnitude. 8 it is, though, as MS seems already be taking steps to phase out 7.

I wish you good luck. Could you also please tell us what it is like? We are in grave need of an objective opinion.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Objective Opinions? I'm full of those. I'm also often told that I'm full of IT, which is why I started working in that field.

techinically OEM can be installed on any machine but you have to wipe out the system fully and be prepare to install drivers via disk or usb.

That's what I'd prefer to do, personally.

(More specifically, if it's a working machine that I don't want to mess too much with the installed programs and settings I can't imagine why I'd want to go and change the OS.  If I want to put a new OS on something then there are very few circumstances why I'd want to migrate from the old and carry all the stuff up that's used to the old system.)

However, that does not always apply to 'commissions' on behalf of other people, ultimately, if they won't be advised against asking me to do this for them.  And (very recently) I've had to deal with a PC that had been 'upgraded' from XP to Windows 7, had totally gone wrong.

There's all sorts of approaches, according to what your personal circumstances (and capabilities and resources) are.  I can't say any particular was is the way to do it, but (OTOH) there are wrong (or at least wronger) ways to do it. ;)

Welp, I've decided that I have a pressing need to reinstall Mint if I actually want to ever get any work done again.

Windows 8 is... let's just say its not an OS that lends itself well to /workflow/.
