Seriously, there are flooding of everything. The upper east side, all of lower manhatten, queens. Staten Island and NJ are fucked. The city is on lockdown. The Subways started flooding.

They have pumps. Train-pumps, room pumps, bucnha stuff. Will take a while depending on the flooding, but still. It wasn't completly flooded (well, the PATH was, but who cares about NJ?), so they will presumabably have it empty in less then a weel. Then, they take the shit out, inspect it, fix whatever saltwater corrosion has done, put it back in. Then they have to inspect every single mile of track. All 612. The MTA guy on TV explained it.

How bad is the flood? Is it 1.5-2 meters high, like in Atlantic City?

Depends. The battery was under 13.5 feet. Others are simply submerged. Others are just barely a foot.

The news has a bunch of pictures. River areas are totally gone. Areas more inland are anywhere from wet to under a foot or two.

EDIT: Oh yeah, NYU hospital is being evacuated. Backup generator is gone. Emergency patients, new-borns, everything.

Fires are raging. Holy shit. Fires are spreading everywhere. Transformers are snapping like nobodies buisness.

Admittedly, I don't know anything about power distribution, but if they knew the city was going to flood, couldn't they have shut down the power beforehand?

Uh, I suppose so. They shut off power to lower manhatten. Thing was that doing that is unheard of.
