 Seems the eye is going to pass right over where I live. My home is just outside the coastal zones so flooding shouldn't be an issue. I'm honestly worried about the large tree over our house and cold when the power goes out.

I once had a storm so bad here in NJ, that a tree fell on its side, and brought the ground it was stuck in by 90 degrees. 4 months later, it had accumulated enough water in it to reupright itself. My backyard is awesome.

hehe, People are lining up near the river, watching it. One guy brought a lawn chair. There were pieces of driftwood, alot of them, most of them looking like they were pulled off of something. Unfortunate implications.

I wonder why people want to live in America, sometimes.

Um. America is really, really big. If you don't want to live in a hurricane zone, you don't really have to. Most folks on the active coasts just tend to think the benefits outweigh the occasional lorry being bounced around like a basketball.

Some of us are also far enough inland and high enough up that even when the coast gets hilari-wrecked by massive winds, rain, and flood, we just kinda' go, "Eh."

See, the upside to living in the Midwest is you don't deal with hurricanes.
The downside to living in the Midwest is...you live in the Midwest. 

That is some serious OMGWTFBBQ about the wave heights. And here I thought 25ft sounded like wild-eyed panic. Concerning news about the wind speed. Almost up to a Cat2. Pressure still slightly dropping (943mb). Track appears to have changed considerably from earlier forecasts, tracking more westerly, with landfall around the southern tip of New Jersey or the northern extent of Delaware rather than Philadelphia. Means Maryland and DC are in for considerably more than initially projected, and NJ is going to catch the brunt of the storm surge. Landfall projected sometime this evening.

Just watched POTUS hold a press conference not saying anything unexpected, but in a perfect world the first two journalists there to ask questions would be sent to report live on the sea state in a small dinghy off the coast of Maryland.

Question 1: "How will this affect the [election] campaign?"

It's an obscenely huge storm, so hard to say what point counts as landfall. I've seen suggestions the cyclone class winds and heavy rain are due between 2PM and 8PM, with the eye due to pass on shore in the late evening. Wunderground tracking map.

I've been seeing 4pm-11pm as the worst of it. Hurricane force gusts (not necessarily sustained winds) being reported from NYC south to Norfolk, VA.

I was watching the news this morning.  In addition to the usual weatherman standing in an empty field in the dark pointing out that IT'S RAININ' SIDEWAYS, there was a lady on a partly flooded beach.  Behind her, a lifeguard tower was standing in two or three feet of water. I suddenly imagined a bunch of people at the top of the tower, pulling each other up and screaming.  Screaming like it's the end of the world.  I couldn't stop laughing, and now I'm gonna write my NaNoWriMo about it.
