Is there a way to attach yourself to surface of an asteroid (My controls don't show it, but I want  to make sure) so your not always constantly floating around? Its really hard to dig when I'm floating around.

Nope

Have you tried the option which binds you to a surface? :)

It only binds your camera though, and the transition can be a bit weird too. Still, try it out and see if you like it.

So there's no way to rotate non-guns, right?

Yes, but only by 90 degree increments. :P

For a "ship of the line" you'd want to build a fleet of cheap, durable warships.  These are not big battleships and these are not disposable drones.  2-man crews, pilot and gunner, with the gunner hopping between different gun control boxes as needed.  Make it compact and easy, nothing glorious, just something that works well without frills.

These ships will have weaknesses and drawbacks, but you're meant to deploy them in groups.  Make them low-manpower and easy to use.  We'll use 5 pilots for the capital ship, or something.

If they are meant to deploy in groups, perhaps consider phalanx tactics. Only armored in the front, but covering each other's sides?

Why has no one made a ship with a heavy rotating shield then!? :P Is the rotation instantaneous? Hell, this could lead to revolutions in weight management and associated details!

Okay, so the idea so far:

An orb, with one driver and a gunner, made out of titanium. Powerful hydrogen thrusters in all directions except at the front, maybe two layers thick of armour. I'm thinking a battery of four heavy assault cannons on the front, which could be fired all at the same time. We will probably be able to use a basic nuke reactor to cover this.

Any thoughts? :)

Not practical. Moving the shield brick by brick takes far too long.  :P

I'm not sure sure I understand - it is not a near-instaneous 90 degree rotation?

You just have the shield attached to that one brick, right?

Again, though, I didn't even realize there was a rotate block control.

Apparently my sarcasm has transcended comprension or something. No in-game, powered thingy currently exists to rotate bricks, so you'll need to do it all by hand.

This, I believe. Otherwise awesome plate arms would be fantastic. Or giant hammers you could swing into enemy ships. Or giant hollow hammers that smash into enemy ships and then unleash a horde of boarders.

If we had moving parts, there would be a LOT more involved than there is right now.
