All I can think is that mounting a rear camera just became interesting, and point defense might be a bit easier.

So yeah, my first spaceship building attempt. Needlessly to say if failed. I cant fly it and it turns really slowly. But not bad for a first try I should say.

Dude, that looks AWESOME. Nice interior design and I love the asymmetry, it's really great! :D

Doesn't look super ultra expensive and would probably be a tough challenge to destroy. :)

I'm just finishing up my second ship (the large one) and have realized that it moves INCREDIBLY slowly. Ahh well, that's sort of the point. :P

God that's ugly.  But I like it.  It's a solid chunk of boulder.  When multiplayer comes around I'll have to help you get the engines oriented and make it fly straight.

That's not unusual.  The trick to learning ship design, is to realize that the only symmetry that matters is the one of mass.  Equally massive blocks on either side of the center of mass will offset each other.  The exact position doesn't matter, only that they're the same direction away from the center of mass.

I guess you could also spread mass unevenly and even the thing with diferent engine power, but thats SCIENCE!!

I've actually been debating how to test the engine effects at different powers, and how to tell how to position unequal engines.

I guess keeping a ratio should work the problem is knowing how the mass is distributed, as we dont even have a center of mass indicator so far.
Also altough unrealistic you could place the engines in the center(inside) of the ship i think that could help (maybe?)

I entered the game to take a screenshot and prove you wrong, but it seems... you are right. Maybe a % of engine increase based on how far from the center the center of mass is? Ill start testing.

I gave this a try and its pretty good but I just can't get into it before it has multiplayer.  When it does I'll be coating my ships with raw rocks to disguise them as natural objects.

There is, unfortunately, rather poor ways of testing speed and power.  You can't really give the thrusters a timed burst to check the power, and it's a tad tricky to time how long it takes to hit max speed.  Outside of some times macros, there's not much in the way of scientific tools!  Can't even really measure how far you've gone on a timed thrust.
