You can set 'Fixed camera on attach' or something like that in the options. As soon as you're in range of something it shifts the camera to a certain way, and you can't just roll around and get confuseded.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

But it can be super annoying at the same time. I've gotten lost in caves because my camera shifted randomly with it on.

Minecraft applies here.  Mark your route.

Alternately, with a big enough craft you can just slice the rock in two and mine from the new outside edges. YOu'll lose potential ores in the process though, be careful where you split it at.

There isn't much of sense of ore depth though, and since there's no tool durability and free floating, you can just bore your way out. Away from the center of gravity is your best bet.

Its impossible to get lost in this caves, so really what I was saying, well, example:
I just saw my first Redium, in a corner of a bigish cave.
"Well hey there sexy, how yo-, where'd you go?"
Yeah.

I've been debating how to construct a mining ship most productively.  My main options so far are "A huge array of low-power lasers that just wipes the first layer away so you can see if there's any ore to go out and get" or "A large laser rod that would act as a saw blade and slice through."  The advantage of the array is that you can sandblast one layer a time and zoom around to see if it exposed anything.  The saw though, you could position at the edge of the Medium or Heavy dirt, and then split it there and expose the core more quickly.  Also the saw could be rotated or swept to provide strip mining.

Are blocks able to be picked up after they are destroyed with lasers? :D

Also, loving the game so far. Still in the mining stage, but should have some shippy stuff up by tonight. Just planning on making a small fighter at first. :)

Just remember, this game throws physics at your face so hard it hurts.
If you arent symmentrical, or your rockets are unbalanced, it can cause some hilarity.
And don't build close to a roid, or your ship will attach to it.

Shooting blocks with a laser will destroy them completely.  This type of ship-based mining would be used to gouge open the asteroid's side and expose the bleeding core of Redium and Pomium.

It's like surgery.
Rip off the skin, remove the organs.
Sell.
Profit.

Cheers for the info! :D I have watched a vid, so I'm semi - prepared.

Ahhh, I see. Basically blowing away the crap to get to the goodies? A bit like mining with dynamite? Could be interesting. :D

I figure this will end up a bit like Terraria, with a few servers popping up briefly, not that there's anything wrong with that.  I'm looking forward to trying some teambuilding myself.  6 control panels, each linked to one set of thrusters.  Now try and dock it.

If means of automatic defense are added, I'd host a dedicated server (24/7) and cheat some insanely powerful defenses in to stop spawnkillers.

Thank you everyone for the help! I've since flooded the fortress I was working on and now have a new one going up.

I've done it, sans camera! WOOOOOOOO! :D

The thing rocks a bit when order to point up or down, but other than that it's perfectly steerable. :D

EDIT : Maybe not. CRASH! Luckily damage isn't implemented yet. :P

A fighter is going to be a difficult prospect of exact engineering, I've discovered.
