An entire ship build out of heavy redium would make a good flagship, and also just a giant demoraliser. "We're so rich we can afford to do this, wooo!"

And don't for get the solid gold toilet seats!

Hmmm... We need a ship that can take damage, yet still be able to be produced cheaply. Maybe of thulium or made of polium. A Ship of the line so to speak.

I've been wondering, does anyone have any good ideas for stealth or camoflaged ships? I've tried building a ship with an irregular shell of light rock, icy rock and corbomite but it doesn't handle so well. Any tips?

Titanium will most assuredly be the material of the line.  Thulium-Iron may be more potent though, as Thulium is plentiful, not used too much, and is more durable than Titanium.

For stealth, all I can think is to make a large hollow shell of natural materials and then a ship inside.  Don't try to coat your ship in ice and rock, just make a "second hull" with empty space inside.

Why hide?

Just weaponize the damn asterioid, slap a ton of engines on it and you're good to go!

Because it freaking isn't a moon!

Also, any way to link a single engine to multiple commands? Because being able to either roll or control the pitch is a somewhat tough choice to make :C

if you whant to hide just build weapon inplacements in to an asterioid.

given time a few player can turn a asterioid in to a massive armored super dreadnought.
if we start with say a rock of 35K we will get most of the need materials for the basic armor and power.
even if does handle like a brick it will be a iron brick with guns

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

We need a Ship Of The Line, you say? ;)

I think Titanium is our best bet here.

I'll think on it...

THAT'S YOUR MOTHER!

HAHAHAHAHA no. ¬_¬

Edit : Ship of the Line discussion. I'll try and come up with a prototype, but I'll need to ask some questions! :D

What should it be made out of?
How big should it be?
How many people are required to man it?
Does it favour speed or strength?
Are there any other special considerations e.g. internal doors, windows etc.

A Dwarven Line Ship would probably be rather boxy, titanium, comparatively low speed, with heavy turret banks, relying more on "we've got a lot of guns" more than anything else.  Minimal or no windows, 1-2 doors for getting inside (unless they're meant to weld themselves in), unusually large guns for the ship's size, and "stable" speed.  Something practical.

The bigger cruisers and stuff can afford room for windows and whatever.

It should be in the mid range of price, like if we were well established we could mass produce them.
It should be able to lay down overwhelming fire, mostly on the sides, because we want them to soak damage.
It should be well armed
It should still be able to dodge, so strong engines on the back/ front for quick dodgeing

a titanium borg cube is the easiest way to do that. maybe some ponium plates near important parts.

a sphere if you are feeling fancy.

Okay. So ideas so far:

Mid price range (titanium / maybe some thorium - iron)
Box shaped (aesthetically I am against this :P, although it probably is the best choice)
Able to dodge, but not necessarily have great straight - line speed
Arms over armour.

How many men should staff it, do you think? :)

depending on placement of guns, I guess either 2, 3 or 5.
( guns on 1 side, 2 sides, 4 sides assuming front are back have thrusters.)

Is there a way to attach yourself to surface of an asteroid (My controls don't show it, but I want  to make sure) so your not always constantly floating around? Its really hard to dig when I'm floating around.
